6 million for mason is laughable
- 2Real

Really?

He has been a top 5 goalie as long as he has been a flyer

Mason has been a top-10 NHL goalie, behind a patchwork defense, since he became a Flyer. If you want a top-10 goalie, you need to pay him like one.

Oh, sorry. I can give the alternates:
JR: "The problem with the Flyers has always been goaltending. Until they get a legitimate starter, they'll never win anything."

Scoob: "Man, Neuvirth has played really well for 3 months despite Mason battling multiple injuries and personal issues. Ditch Mason for whatever we can get and sign Neuvirth long-term."

Then what would you want? Aside from those 2 (I'm assuming Parayko isn't in play), there's not a whole ton to like in the cupboard.

Just don't they they'd trade promising young players (Barbashev, here, Fabbri is a pipe dream) for a meh FA Gagner and a 38 yo d man coming off injury who has another expensive year.

Picks are more likely if it does happen.

also dont think theyd trade a top pairing defenseman because of a 3 week injury

I knew Fabbri was a long shot, but wasn't sure how high they are on Barbashev.

But I don't thinK Gagner + Medvedev gets you much of anything. Again, there's not a whole lot of B-type prospects on St. Louis. If AP is out, I figured they'd want more of an "impact" guy like Streit.
- jmatchett383

They can't afford Streit this year or next.

lol but not once have I ever said anything like that, Mrs. Mason.

All I've ever said is that they're not going to be able to keep both of them happy and by the end of next season one of them will be gone. They're both legit #1 goalies imho and are going to want to be paid accordingly.

Bill,

Thanks for your spirited, well reasoned defense of Steve Mason. I do have concerns about his durability, but he has been a pleasant surprise who essentially has cancelled out the negative effects of mishandling Bob.

I don't think Crosby is dumb enough to cross check Wayne Simmonds in the head.

Hate that McDonagh got hurt, but the reality is, his careless and dangerous use of the stick started the whole thing.

I mean, the idea that McDonagh got his stick up to "protect himself" (as Ranger announcers described it) is soft peddling what actually happened on the play.

- johndewar

Have to wonder if he would be saying the same thing if a guy like Dan Paille was the recipient of Simmonds' punch. Have to think he is just pissed he lost his captain and one of his best players. He even mentions he's an all star player, like that should make a difference at all in the context of someone getting sucker punched.

I'd shop Nuevy and try and get a team to overpay, if not keep him and deal with it next year. Mason has become a part of this core and despite injury issues, that's what back ups are for. He hasn't been out long term this year, jut a few small stints. I like having stability in net, which we haven't had in YEARS!

its a joke that nothing is said of a crosscheck to the head. I don't blame Simmonds for being pissed at all.
- nastyflyergirl

No and I firmly believe had Simmonds not caught him in the jaw nothing would have come of the play. It wasn't like a knock out punch, at least from what I can tell. I think he just caught him in a bad spot.

That's being soft peddled as the cross check was McDonagh "protecting himself".

I don't recall the rule that says it's cool to cross check someone in the head because you don't want someone finishing a check on you. It was a horsepoop play by McDonagh and he paid for it.

- johndewar

so according to them, its ok to crosscheck a guy in the head to protect yourself from a clean check. got it.

If you catch the anyone in the right (wrong) spot, you'll drop them. When you're as strong as Wayne Simmonds (compared to the average person), it only makes it worse. I don't think it was dirty, I just think he caught him the wrong way.
