I felt last night that our goaltending and special teams that were a problem. OUr PP did not score. Our PK allowed a goal and in fact we gave up a shortie as well. And obviously Fluery had a bad game.
Without Malkin and Fehr, goaltending must be good fro us to have a chance. IMO, that means calling up Murray if necessary. I don't know if MAF is hurt or the layoff has hurt his form and concentration? It doesn't matter to me. As a coach you must give your team the best chance to win each night. Who wouldn't feel more comfortable with Murray in net vs Florida?

whoever approved changing the online system mid season should get fired. Idiotic and would never be allowed in any other industry. The system sucks. Constantly freezes and loops back. Doesn't transition between games fluidly either without freezing. |

I just read through the comments of the other blog to try to get a gist of what happened since I only caught the first, and holy poop everyone needs to relax a bit. We don't have any breathing room in the standings, but that doesn't change the fact that we were injured as (frank) and that this Florida road trip is pretty unwinable. Some lack luster performances doesn't from some players doesn't mean everyone on this team magically sucks now. Given his history, MAF's two bad games in a row is concerning, but if it weren't for him we'd be this year's version of last year's CBJ team: a good team playing excellent hockey in the second half of the season but with no chance to make the playoffs. He stole us games early on to keep us in contention, so maybe we should forgive him his sins. And the Hagelin hate... One bad game without Malkin and we're ready to call him an albatross and JR incompetent. Everyone with eyes knows how that H-M-K line has been buzzing. Apologies that a middle six winger who has great chemistry with Malkin and Kessel didn't deliver when Malkin is swapped out for Cullen. Cullen and Malkin are slightly different, you know? Sounds like Dumoulin had a bad game. We gonna crucify him too?
Spoiler alert: we're probably gonna lose tonight too. But everyone should relax on the doom saying until we know if Malkin is out long term or not. |

I definitely understand their reasoning to go with a more modern feel, but they obviously should have done much more testing to make sure it was flawless. The first game after the break took a poop on me with 10 left in the 3rd. Couldn't get back into it. Thankfully the game last night was on NHL network. |

C'mon now, you know how it is. We suck and the sky is falling. Truth is, half our forwards started in the AHL this year and we are also missing one of the games best in Geno. We played a team that is on an absolute tear and firing on all cylinders. We dominated the first and the rest was pretty even, just MAF let in a few muffins and was screened a few times.

I don't think anybody is panicking, but they can't afford to play so loosely with this many regulars missing. That's where my disappointment comes from.....they absolutely need to be more defensively conscious. MAF is a little disturbing because we haven't seen this version of him for a couple of years. He looks like a dear in the headlights......so yeah, got to limit chances until he regains his form.
I expected to see a performance like the Devils game before the break. Instead we Disco's Penguins from the Flyers series a few years ago. |

To say we shouldn't expect to win games is ok, to accept a loss because of who we play is not. So we play Tampa & Florida & it's ok to lose??
The Pens were dominating & played a good game - so no matter who you play if you play like that there's a chance to win (no matter who the opposition is!! ). Critical errors by individuals leading to goals let the team down - goal tending being 1. Fair enough there were some excuses but as a whole it's not good enough for a border line elite tender. Kuni & Porter should give themselves an uppercut for their turnovers leading to goals. So even with the Flower opening up, take 2 errors away & it's a tied game (without the EN). So anyone still accepting the loss should be pissed.
Today's game will be chippy I think, so if we can play as well as yesterday & stay calm we should come away with a point or 2!!!!!
I've said this since Murray showed some form in the NHL, not just because of yesterday (even though that supports my argument even more), if Murray shows he is NHL ready then moving forward Flower should be traded - there's too many reasons to.
Let's go Pens!! |

How is Hagelin working for you? Perron has been a beast for Anaheim. I'm guessing even if Geno gives him a perfect pass, Hags will find a way to miss the net or the shot. But if he can pass to a player with hands, he might pick up a few assists. |

Doesn't finish anything but he's a quality playmaker and normally when on a line with Malkin and Kessel all he has to do is not be a hindrance like Perron was. |

He brings speed, which the Pens lack. But thats about it, Farnham skated fast too. Trading a 1st for Perron was bad. Trading Perron for a guy who can't score was just as bad considering we have 3 more years of him to watch. I just love how Kessel elevates his game with Malkin out. Kessel gets a free pass on this board for whatever reason. |

Actually he already has five assists. He is playing with Kessel and Malkin, they look good. Hagelin and Kessel seem to have very good chemistry.
Perron was absolutely snake bit here and needed a change. I don't know his stats in Anaheim but I wouldn't be surprised if he has already outperformed his stats here. |

Yeah, 7 games, 3 goals, 5 assists. But Hags has 5 assists for you guys. So I'm thinking that was a really good hockey trade for both teams, except for the term on Hags' contract. Hags brings the speed you need on that line. And Perron plays the slower, inside the dots and in the crease game the Ducks like, and that Hags is allergic to. I say it was probably good for both of us. |

Unless he can score 'some' goals or continue putting up assists this board will turn on him in my opinion. At 4m speed only gets you so far, at the moment that line looks good. But if things like passing up shots (yesterday), because you're not confident & that line stops scoring (which you think shouldn't happen with Geno & Philbo on it), that 4m will be being questioned big time!
Everyone is quick to defend the trade by saying Perron played well when he first arrived here then disappeared, but even though Rags fans said don't expect Shags to do much scoring, there's a few on this board that have a huge hard on & are happy for him not to score goals!
Here's hoping both players can be successful in their new surroundings for longer than a month. |

Hags speed has opened up things for Malkin and Kessel.....especially Kessel. I think it was a good hockey trade. I honestly have no idea why Perron couldn't shake his slump here, but it was pretty evident he wasn't going to figure things out while wearing a Pens jersey.
Hags is probably getting a mil too much, but I'm pretty comfortable with the 3 more years. He's a good fit for the team and can play anywhere in the lineup.
If I'm the Ducks GM, I'd be weary of signing Perron to significant contract. He lit things up for us too initially before going STONE cold.
Zatkoff getting the nod tonight. |

he has assisted... he has played good. what do you expect? a hat trick every 3rd game? a 55 game point streak? give me a break...
you talk about the boards opinion about if he don't score he will be slanderd then you say the EXACT same thing.... |
