If Crow plays like he has been we'll wipe the floor with these guys. Beat them like the Franks beat the Moops in the battle of tours. Go upstairs on Niemi and you'll drive a hemi.

Leafs need him, that team has a lot of rebuilding to do. Once JVR is traded it will be a couple years of prospect auditions. |

Still no Sekac?
I wonder if his effort in practice is lacking.
I'm also beginning to worry a little about Gusto's play of late. - BetweenTheDots
Agreed. Seems like the kid has hit a wall of sorts. Should be a good test v the speedy Stars.
Q's allocation of his minutes, 10 last game, should clue us into his thoughts.

Not sure what anyone could discern from the Icehog game last night.
9-1 Griffins at Rockford...most lopsided lose in years.
Oh...and the Hogs scored the first goal. - ArlingtonRob

One asset Bowman has at the TDL is that the Hawks are currently carrying only 44 contracts. He could accept dead one way contracts buried in another team's system in exchange for salary retention on the player he wants. |

He also doesn't HAVE to move Bickell. It would be nice but not vital. |

Yeah I agree, you knew it was bad when they didn't register a shot off of 2 powerplays in the first |

My guess is Bickell is a Hog/Hawk until the buyout window opens this summer. The cost of trading him, it would appear, is too high in terms of salary retention/prospects/picks. The Hawks need their cheap contributors moving forward as much or more than they need to get rid of Bickell's dead $3m this year.

I see only 3 players on Tampa and Calgary who fit the Hawks needs and cap space (and are within reason of being available without trading someone off the Hawks roster):
Drouin ($895K RFA)
Hudler ($4M UFA)
Russell ($2.6M UFA)
Picking up Russell and Hudler would be my preference. Both would be rentals but would fill the needs quite nicely and probably would not cost too much. Hudler would probably cost less than trying to wrestle Drouin away from Yzerman.
Those two players would help the repeat effort and then go after a Boedker or some other UFA this summer for long term.

Assuming Bicks is still a Hawk by the summer, how does a buyout benefit the Hawks? They will still eat $4M of cap if he's in Chicago (not likely) or $3M in Rockford. Do they get a substantial break on the cap hit? |

Motte 2 goals, 24 on the year. - kmw4631
So - with Schmaltz and Mott(e) - the Hawks could have a chicken fat and apple sauce line at some point in the future? |

To me it was as if they were hanging on as much as they could, (didn't they play a stretch of games 10 games in 16 days) and when Sharp scored the early 3rd period goal, they were like f it time for Xmas break
Tonight's game should be a better rested Blackhawk team, I expect a more competitive outcome |

Ya maybe , HAWKS out shot them almost 2 to 1 in 2nd . And a early goal in the 3rd seemed to kill the teams momentum .Crow did not have his best , and Hossa was MIA . Remember thinking going into the 3rd it was anyone's game , then the quick goal by Sharp .HAWKS seemed ready for the Christmas break after that .. |

I like the way you think , both those players are veteran players that would be sure fire depth help come tough playoff games . And as you say may not cost near the price other would demand ...

My feeling is that is if Bickell goes anywhere, which is doubtfull, it will be Calgary. Probably have to give up a mid range prospect and a pick with Russell/Hudler coming back. |

Why - they could serve it at Panara(n)? |

Mex,
You have mentioned that the Jets will get a big haul for Ladd and / or Buff. Do you think they will get a player with as much perceived value as Dano or TT? I'm just curious that if the Hawks wanted to trade one of them, if they'd even be in the running? I personally think no one could come close to offering an asset as valuable, but you seem to be hearing otherwise?
My view is that something like Dano, Bickell (1M retained) and a 3rd (maybe it would have to be the 1st) for Ladd (1M retained) and a depth Dman like Pardy or maybe Ben Chiarot would make a lot of sense.
I keep hearing how all these teams are calling about Dano. If that's the case, his trade value seems like it may never be higher. I'd make a Dano AND Bickell package and see what I could get. |
