Honestly, straight up, the deal for Anisimov is a win for the Hawks...and that's not denigrating Saad at all...he's a great player who is still improving...but Anisimov has been a revelation in a Hawk's uniform. Last night he played like an elite Centre. A LOT better than Eric Staal, for instance, who's making $8+ per year.

And when you add Dano and Panik to the deal, its tilting hugely towards the Hawks. Great work Stan.

And the extra cap space. I agree the deal doesn't just look to be a win for the Hawks, but a BIG win for the Hawks.

Agreed. Not to say I don't miss Saad, but I really underestimated that trade. Bowman is a solid/underrated GM.

Why would Gus be playing if he was still sick?
- SimpleJack

Toews was (and probably others).

Yeah, you're right.

Or maybe it's possible that a guy can be "recovered" from the acute stages of the flu (viral shedding, fever, muscle aches) and able to play, but still not 100% because he lost weight and some strength during the acute phase.

Ya think maybe?

I wouldn´t be too worried about Gus. Sick or not this is his first year in North America and as I´ve said earlier that getting use to playing as many games and travel a lot can take its toll on european players. I think it is a big plus that he is up and able to play in NHL. Playing good when your tired is something to learn about for europeans.

And this could be the full extent of it. I'm not his physician.

They said he played on a pairing with Klingberg in Frolunda. Must have been a scary power play.

Gus has shown a lot of fire from day 1. He probably sees the others playing thru illness and wants to show he is just as tough. You can see he has that gene on the ice. Thought it showed more though in the first stint. He would mix it up in scrums and trash talk after whistles. A little more focused since the last call up.

Because with a 101 fever and puking between periods, he's still able to bring more speed than Scuderi

Yeah i get he whole he's better than Scuderi thing, just seems odd cuz we've been holding out players/taking them out mid-game for being too sick. If he needed an extra few days to get back to strength, idk, maybe wait till he's ready.

I hate to be the guy female doging after such a big win, but you have been right on the Mash thing all year long.

I'm at a loss how he can be in the lineup. Just don't get it. I have a hard time believing he brings any deterrance to the game, he's never out there.

I don't think he'll be out there in the playoffs, but I'd rather have a Sekac, or even one the the Rockford guys (Hartman, McNeill) out there getting time to get comfortable for the playoffs, over Mash.

Q knows more than me, its just hard to believe on this one point

Just bringing some humor, I actually agree with you. We've all had the flu, getting out there and playing with it, or just after getting over it seems insane.

For the record, Q said Sekac wasn't sick, I know he lies, but he was asked a direct question last night and that was his answer.

I would LOVE to see the Hawks bring up Hartman right now...let him acclimate himself over the next 26 games, and then add a real physical, 200' game come playoff time. But we do need to see Sekac first. His speed is at the top end of the NHL, faster than Hoss apparently.

And herein lies my concern with Q and Mashinter. By trading Garbutt away, it allows him to play Mashinter by automatically putting Sekac in the doghouse. Don't like it at all.

And let's not forget...it takes AT LEAST a few weeks to get your lungs back to somewhat normal....Which is obviously a huge factor in any sport let alone hockey

Probably relative to the level of illness... and this discussion was centered on his low mins being a result of illness/injury or bad play. Looks like his low mins are a result of illness so essentially the same as holding someone out mid game. No doubt Q wanted him in for a game like last night over the Scud option. Against a lesser team he may have been out.

I wonder if that means Q doesn't think Sekac is sick enough not to have traveled?

Definitely dog housed.

We aren't there for practice, so I guess Sekac could be not showing something, but like you said above, let Hartman get acclamated.

Maybe, they know Krugs will be fine come playoff time, so they are planning on having a 3rd and 4th line of:

Shaw - Danault - TT
Desi - Krug - Panik/Moose/Sekac

No room for Hartman or Mash and they want to let Hartman play the post season with the team in Rockford.

Key to that awesome bottom 6 ...............that rental 1LW

Exactly. These guys are young, supremely conditioned, with powerful immune systems. Which means the flu will kick your ass for a few days (because of your immune response) and then you'll bounce back relatively quickly.

But, still, probably not 100% for several days maybe even a week or two. Hossa looked literally dead on his skates right before the ASG. Toews was sick then. Anisimov apparently had it a couple of weeks earlier.
