Yes and no. Yes, it'll bring in picks/players, but it would decimate the culture and learning curve of the new players. If you read the interviews with the young guys, they talk about how much the Sedins influence them and teach them on a day to day basis (on and off ice). They might be two of the best role models in the league to have on your team and your young kids learning from. Plus, they're talented as hell so it's not like they're Prust. Some people are for trading them, I'm against it. Plus I don't even think it would ever happen, so the conversation is pretty moot. You just don't want to go full Edmonton.
Per Hamhuis, I wouldn't mind him coming back for max 2 years to incubate and teach some of the younger guys, especially in a 5 slot. If there's an upgrade, clearly you try and get that, but I don't think too many great D are hitting the market this year, and we don't have any blockbusters in the system, so I feel that incorporating any young guys in like they're done with the forwards this year is best. - NewYorkNuck

I'd love to trade Hammer for Bowey and a 2nd and then resign him in the summer. Hamhuis told Ian Mac he'd take a pay cut to remain a canuck. 2 yrs 7 mill
Then Edler for Anthony DeAngelo, a 1st and Matt Carle - Bieksa#3
Why are people so high on Bowey? I don't see him being an NHL regular, similar to Etem imo, lots of raw talent but not the head for the game. |

Canadian teams, as a general statement, suck because they're either A) not patient enough to build through the draft due to pressure from ownership and fan base OR B) they're grossly mismanaged. Or a combination of both?
Like it or not, the Oilers are going to be a very very good team in about three to five years with the people and players they now have. I know people have been saying that for a few years, but come on, it's different now, they've just drafted a talented kid that you don't see come around too often.
Do you need that generational talent to win, no, but you most certainly need to pick a few time in the top five. |

All signs point to Canucks having a top 3 pick. Matthews, Laine or Pulpujarvi.
Matthews would be on the team next year, the other two probably another year in Finland. That would allow us to get another top end pick next year. We'd then be just as good as Oilers. |

Young 20 i think with high upside and plays right and would be our number 1 d prospect. Im for guys like that hoping that the potential turns in to a top pairing or at least top 4 guy because once a player is there they are impossible to pick up. |

Until the Oilers become realistic about what they have, they won't win. Overvaluing their assets. Offered Nuge straight up for Seth Jones and then complain that no good D men are available.
Where offered Hamilton for Nurse and a 2bd. Wouldn't do it.
(Both of these offered confirmed by Bob Mackenzie's) |

With the lottery system set up like it is, you really have no incentive to finish last, although your odds are better, but that's proven to be very misleading when it comes to winning the first overall pick.
Just picking top five gets you a really good talent pool, on top of the kids they already have. When it gets deep enough you can then start to make moves to fill deficiencies in your lineup. |

Totally with A and B. Once the Oilers can get out from those terrible contracts signed by previous management they will have some wiggle room with the cap. They should really be looking to deal a forward for a defensemen. Vatanen would look good on that team I wonder if they could do Yakupov for him? He would look good with getz and perry.

I think their picture, to Chiarelli, is becoming a lot more clear with Draisaitl coming into his own. They've got two or three good combinations with Draisaitl/Hall, McDavid with Eberle or Yak.
They can now start moving pieces this June or summer, we'll see Chiarelli do something IMO.
McDavid is 18, Draisaitl is 19, Hall is 24, Nurse is 20, Yak is 21, Klefbom is 22, RNH is 22.....half those guys aren't even men yet.
Patience says in five years that's gonna be one helluva team with McDavid and Draisaitl down the middle is they continue to improve their defence and goaltending!! |

Does the new system mean you can fall more than one place? I always thought it should be a pure lottery with those missing the playoffs, not just one team has chance to move up. |

Thank you! I was sincerely looking for people to give me the value of a) edler b) hamhuis c) any other player on the team
What's the price of Edler??
What would be the value of hamhuis at this point. Maybe Cowen + a pick would do it but that would be assuming he really isn't the same D-man he was. Sens also don't want to do below
If this is true, won't the Canucks benefit from trading the Sedins (certainly would bring a boat load for a team looking to contend next 2-3 years). If $ is retained ... just imagine. - AlfieisKing
Hammer is a 1st+b-c prospect. Edler is a 1st+A prospect and a roster defenseman coming back minimum. |
