GM's should have the ntc expire Feb 1st of the last year, that would still be a good length of certainty for a player and give the club some flexibility. don't hate the player, hate the game.

Each team should be allowed 2 franchise players after that there should be NTC or NMC

That would make things interesting, maybe those franchise players would be next to impossible to trade then, but there would be less overall restriction of player movement beyond making the cap dollars work.

GM's might have the hammer, do you want term or an ntc, but you can't have both.

That's a good idea. NTC/NMC can only be good for the first two years

I think a lot of us seen this coming. As a fan of course we want the draft pick, as the player you want what's best for your family.

If it is the case that he refuses to move it will put an end of trade speculation and also put an end to hoping to return next year.

MG should have negotiated that the NTC changes in the last season... why didn't that gomer at least build that safety net into the deal...

You can't prove what he thinking therefore the decision has to favour the refs. You can't leave a big loophole to give the players a reason to nail the ref.
- VANTEL

Agreed. But IMO it wasn't on purpose. I think it was just a player who didn't know what was going on... give him 5 games plus time served and 3 yrs probation.

He knew he'd be fired by the time the contract was up, so he left a big FU to the new guy and FA.

Pucks on net broadcast is partly about Canucks ponying up for Stamkos. I didn't listen to the broadcast

I think the league should ban NTC/NMC in the last year of a contract.

I think all this Stamkos/Van talk is just a way to drive up the price for Toronto, how would TO fans react to Van signing Stamkos (I want nothing to do with this by the way)

I think it has to do with how much available cap space we have. Other teams will have space but have to use it to re-sign RFAs. We actually have all our ducks in a row and can make a serious offer.

I have mixed feelings . First of all it answers the question of life after the Sedins. It gives us scoring and speeds up the rebuild. The cons are that's a lot of dough

If you pay Stamkos that much it just opens the question, how do you fix the defense?

and a ntc likely.

Anytime you can pick up a ufa like Stamkos, you have to give it a shot. Too much skill and talent in the lineup is only a problem if they aren't producing.

This might be the most ideal time to sign a guy like that with the Sedins still contributing and some quality cheap depth in the lineup... it just doesn't address our woeful defense. unless you are able to find some d help or picks by moving some depth...

Hes going to the Leafs. I've already heard it's 100% happening. Just heard Leafs offered Reilly 2 years and $8m or 6 years $36m. Needs to decide which he goes for. If he does the bridge contract, could get paid huge on next deal... but lots of risk.

Leafs need to ship out Phaneuf and Bozak. Their next wave is about 2 years behind ours, even though they started 10 years before us.

I'm pretty sure he Bridges, maybe if he really wants to win he takes the 5+ milx6 but I'd imagine he goes for the payday. The Duncan Kieth's of this world are rare.

I hate that sh1t that a player at the end of his contract owes the team to waive his NTC!!
- Marwood

Marwood? Have you really thought this through? If Hamhuis doesn't waive his no trade Benning is an idiot and Ballstein will join the Leafs thread. Somebody tweet Hamhuis?
