I am curious to know why Benning is trying to get the big Russian in mow. It is an unusual move for a Canuck team to do mid season. There must be something about him they like. - VANTEL
I read about it....so JB is enticing him to sign contract mid season so he will be with comets IN ADDITION to what he earned in KHL since their season ends in April, around playoff time for comets. This way he will burn 1 year of his ELC in like a month and JB has him signed as canuck property. He wont lose a yr worth of income he'd get in KHL this way |

zero offense to his game and is in the echl not a signing i would have made. should have let him re-enter the draft. - mauryballstein
Canucks will be dumping a few of the old Gillis contracts this summer |

if he doesnt deal the vets or make moves for long term success im done with this team - mauryballstein
That's a pretty stupid comment. What if the vets exercise their NTC's? A couple 2nd round pics are unlikely to have a big impact on the future of this franchise. |

Why does Benning want to burn a year of ELC? |

Not a signing you would of made but you're also thinking of jumping on the Jets bandwagon. |

It's a selling feature. He is making more in the KHL so if he joins Utica for the playoffs that will eat a year of his entry level contract. Benning will mention he can earn a double paycheque for the rest of the season and only have two years left before he can make more $ than the KHL |

We have great fans in Vancouver! If Benning doesn't trade Vrbata for a 2nd I'll burn my jersey and cheer for the Flyers |

He better be good if we need to bribe him to play here |

Ill be jumping on a bandwagon maybe the jets? i have 26 days to figure it out. FA is (frank)ing brutal and on his way to (frank)ing up this team if he doesnt let benning deal our pending ufas. - mauryballstein
I don't think Benning is serious about a playoff run unless they get really hot before the deadline. At least I hope not. |

Phucker is the only one that has ever followed through with that. Surprisingly with all his hockey knowledge he jumped ship to join a team in worse shape than ours |

The KHL season ends Feb 18th and then the playoffs start. He's on a 7th place team so as soon as his team is eliminated he can come over. |

What I find funny is everyone believing what Benning says and no one believing what Gillis said. |

Don't get to excited, 4G 7A in 50 KHL games, but he is a (frank)ing giant. |

Yeah I am not expecting a sniper , I am expecting a shutdown guy. Also a guy who will make other teams pay the price if there is a cheap hit or run the goalie |

Well...I suspect he is but there is no way he will acquire a rental. If the team is two points out of a playoff spot how do you tell the sedins (and the kids) he doesn't believe in them and then have a firesale? He can't. Their record in the next 2 weeks will determine his course of action. For the record, I want the UFA's gone either way I just don't think management can sell it to the core of the team and "most" season ticket holders/ corporate sponsors |

I know I will get responses but I hope we stink for the next few weeks. I really want the high draft pick

It's a no risk signing. If he has to burn a year of his ELC it's not a big deal. This isn't a blue chip prospect playing in NA. It's a relatively unknown commodity in Russia that may be hesitant to move to a foreign country to get less of a paycheque and ride busses...
With that being said, I'd rather ride a Canadian manufactured bus around the Eastern states that a poopty Russian Airline.

They've been moving out vets because the speed of the team has changed and the vets stick out like sore thumbs. It has many fans excited but I just can't see them changing course because they are in the POs. This is a team in transition, don't (frank) that up.
