Does/did Wideman actually have a concussion though? I know he was banged up, but I haven't seen any conclusive report. This is obviously a message sent to players in general, can't be doing that to ref's.

He was diagnosed with one ...which makes the NHL and the flames look very bad IMO

Yes he is a total scumbag ....raffi Torres meets Todd bertizzi rolled into one

That's what the league has to fix ...the flames aren't the first team to have this happen and won't be the last

In all seriousness...I've played hockey 30 years and suffered numerous concussions. I've never cross checked anybody by accident. He is a lying pos

He should man up and say he (frank)ed up

“Good defencemen are hard to come by, and there’s a premium on top-four defencemen. You have to draft and develop them yourselves, that’s what it seems to me," Benning said.

you are using concussion as the main excuse as to why Wideman buried a referee from behind after a hit, yet you are saying a concussion of this magnitude should be shaken off after 1 week?

If I was in his shoes or skates if you will ...I would not be on the ice at all ...but with concussions you can never tell how long or how bad the affects are ...

The NHL allows bare knuckle punching to the head. I don't think they honestly care about concussions but will say all the right things to avoid lawsuits

I like that Benning is the one saying it, that's for sure.

I just clicked on Sprortsnet and the first article to pop up is "Babcock says Phaneuf is a better person than he could ever dream."

what is your argument here? I have stated my opinion that I thought 10 games would have been the fair and appropriate length. Are you with 'The-O-G' and thinking that he deserves nothing? I am not sure what you are defending.

So most people have a different first impression.... thought he was a total ahole, but some days he just doesn't bring it.

I can help here....some of you know I am a practitioner. Concussions come in all types and symptoms are varied. I've seen people who don't know who their kids are after an impact, talking gibberish, getting things mixed up etc.

Don, it sounds like you are one of the lucky ones who doesn't get anything more than simple stuff.

What was clear to me there was he DID have intent to hit, you can clearly see that. BUT he hit him like he was a player. Right away you see him confused on the bench, talking to his team mate and skates over and apologizes to the ref at next stoppage.

So while the video clearly shows intent to deliver a hit I suspect he didnt realize he hit a ref at 1st. It's possible he was stunned enough to not realize the zebra shirt. It IS possible yes. We can never be in his head and know 100%.

You can't prove what he thinking therefore the decision has to favour the refs. You can't leave a big loophole to give the players a reason to nail the ref.
- VANTEL

Agreed. But IMO it wasn't on purpose. I think it was just a player who didn't know what was going on... give him 5 games plus time served and 3 yrs probation.

In my world Edlers always on the block....deal accepted
- Bullfrog77

One of your fellow posters offered Lazar + Lindberg + Cowen, which would do very nicely.
- belcherbd

is Edler's value like that? That is a pretty decent package
