That's total bullsh!t!! It was no accident and looked completely blatant.

Everyone sees what they want to ...I see a guy who was concussed making his way to the bench and not seeing his surrounding properly running into someone last second and making a quick turn while raising his hands to defend himself ...you see a guy mad he got crushed and taking it out on the official

You can't prove what he thinking therefore the decision has to favour the refs. You can't leave a big loophole to give the players a reason to nail the ref.
- VANTEL

But if you can't prove the thinking like you say then how can you declare the intent ?

The more I watch the play the more I realized that he was going to be punished unfairly because of how it looked and not what actually happened

What does that have to do with viciously cross checking an official?

Hey we're all homers sometime. But the NHL had no choice really, if they let this go for a short suspension they will be saying that its okay we're not really protecting our officials and then it becomes a slippery slope where you'd see more players accidentally bumping into officials, etc.

No matter what in any sport you have to protect the officials or you let the people run the asylum instead of having some sort of order.

The NHLPA is making a huge mistake I think in using the argument Wideman was concussed because they lay it out there that its possible that players are playing concussed then and the past players and current players who may get CTE or some other brain diseases might not have a defense against the NHL in a class action laswsuit for saying "they didn't know the ramifications" of hits to the head or hits period.

You have to favour on the side of the refs or else it is open season on the officials every time something goes wrong.

Yes and it affects everyone differently is a defense, some people it happens right away some it takes weeks, in the end the headaches, nauseau, blurriness, not being able to think straight takes a long time to recover from, if ever. That's why I feel for Andrew Alberts who has not recovered from the McGrattan KO.

Coming to the Canuck's thread looking for sympathy may not be the brightest idea.

I don't t think he takes that big of a discount to stay in van ....if he resigns there you might not like the number per year tbh

With the cap going nowhere, there has to be some market correction to salaries. This summer is going to be interesting, since the cap system started, it has been increasing year to year, gm's writing cheques and worrying about cap space later.

For me, having Hamhuis back for a couple of seasons would be okay.

one of the downsides is we have a log jam of lefties, which shouldn't be that big a deal but apparently is. Sbisa, Hutton, Hamhuis, Biega... who plays rhd on the second pairing?

I want Pedan in the lineup. The guy is going to require waivers and turn into a Tinordi situation.

i'd be happy if we can get one of Vrana, Bowey, Burakovsky.... heck i'd even take samsonov..... we need another goalie controversy.... but not the boring 2 goalie controversy.... we need a three goalie controversy with Markstrom, Demko and Samsonov
- Mungo

im really hoping any of the above players come here for hamhuis especially bowey but to let him walk so we can finish 8 instead of 7 is just ridiculous.

I would like to deal hamhuis and if we can deal sbisa or give him away then bringing back hamhuis isnt all bad it buys us time develop a replacement for him.

Like staying in the game? If he was coherent enough to continue playing then he was probably coherent enough to not cross check a ref.

if you think that's vicious then you must be concussed

If someone is concussed their entire surroundings are different ...they see things blurred and react slower than normal ...

There's some bigger issues at play if he did indeed suffer a concussion. First, anyone who suffers a concussion should be out a minimum of 6 weeks but really that should be more like 6 months. If the NHL goes light on Wideman because he suffered a head injury, then it opens the door and gives traction to former players suing over permanent head trauma suffered while playing the game. They can't be lenient because he took a big hit. Wideman kinda has to fall on sword for this one so the NHL can protect its brand.

Re: OV, Malkin, Kovalchuk.

Also you don't draft a player for what they are capable of now, you draft them for the atheleticism and raw potential they possess. This is what makes guys like Chychrun a no brainer top-5, not cause he's NHL ready cause you can't teach guys how to skate and have the instincts like that. Laine is a raw rookie, that combo of hands, shot and size pretty rare I a prospect, you're not drafting players very often because they're kids and just not ready.

- neem55

Oh yes, I have heard of those guys. I'm saying you can't afford to miss on a top 10 pick. If a Russian was ranked 5 and he dropped to 10 then sure we should grab him.
