Looks like Washington is going to hard after Hamhuis and will be watching him heavily upon his return. - Codes1087
i'd be happy if we can get one of Vrana, Bowey, Burakovsky.... heck i'd even take samsonov..... we need another goalie controversy.... but not the boring 2 goalie controversy.... we need a three goalie controversy with Markstrom, Demko and Samsonov |

I see EDM, DAL, FLA as potentially being the big players for him. The other teams are either cap strung or budget teams ie. Ott who won't go above their own internal caps.
Still it's nice to hope that Dan likes living in Van so much he doesn't need the money and decides to stay and be a mentor.....I'm overly optimistic here. - allsports
I get that he is a hometown favourite.
Canucks are sitting in a good spot right now . Returning next year most spots are locked up.
We should be looking for a top 6 forward ( that could be Shink or a UFA)
We need a 4 th line centre ( maybe Zalewski or a UFA)
And lastly we need a Top 4 Dman. Currently under contract are Edler Tanev Sbisa Hutton and Biega. It looks like Pedan and Tryamkin will be part of things next year.
We will have about 15-20 mil in cap space to do something big with a top 4 D or a top 6 Forward. Bringing back Hamhuis doesn't make us better. It keeps us where we already are. |

are Vrana and Bowey untouchable though. Damn the caps have really done well despite losing Forsberg for nothing. |

i think Hamhuis could get you something substantial.... but I imagine you could get an even bigger return if somehow the new team can negotiate a contract extension prior to a deal being completed |

You're right we need all of these, some of these need to be less than the $1m variety ie. Zalewski for 4th line centre, homegrown which should be for the whole 4th line but we have Dorsett there.
We need to draft Dmen as I think that's the best way to find a top 2 guy. Last season 50 out of the top 100 scoring Dmen were drafted in the first round.
Top 6 I'd like to see Shink get a chance depends on what Benning does, which I hope is give the kids a chance and not sign a big ticket guy like Lucic or Erikkson as I don't think we're a cup contender with this core anymore so let's prepare the next core and add those big pieces when we're close to contending in a few years.

He doesn't have to, but I think he will.
It was bad enough with Sundin in Toronto, with more social media stuff today, it could get very uncomfortable to stick around when the fanbase and media wants to move you.
when we miss the playoffs and Hamhuis is still around, he could be a focal point for all the wrong reasons...

I do see Benning drafting a top Dman this year. Even if he has to trade up I see him taking a Dman that will be ready or close to ready to play on the Canucks.
I could see him taking a run at Stamkos but not Lucic or Ericksson. It doesn't all have to be fixed this year . We can spread it out over two years . |

At first I thought he would never get a first but now I believe he will. If Byfuglien is re-signed by Winnipeg then the price goes up |

Difference being of course Weber just put his hands up to protect himself...It's not like he deliberately crosschecked the ref in the back like Wideman did. - LordHumungous
Wideman had a concussion and didn't see the ref ...it was more to defend himself than anything ...I'm not saying what weber did was wrong ...just that there is no way it's 20 games difference |
|
|

i think wideman wasn't paying attention to what was going on and just looking down at the ice while skating off. he came up behind the linesman and protected himself from another collision... - kaptaan

MTL better not be taking our top 6 pick...

No Carey price is showing what everyone has thought ...price can turn a bottom feeder into a contender |

He could be but I don't want to be Edm with no mentors on the back end and look at how long their rebuild is taking. Edler isn't a mentor, he's a minute muncher who has great and ugly moments, Tanev is still learning but great positionally, so unless we bring in another older mentor Dman I think the cheapest solution would be to see if Hamhuis wants to fulfill that role. He has enough money, it really depends on what Benning's vision for his players and FA's.

I'm assuming he doesn't. He sure sounds like he doesn't want to go and that's his right. |

Why would a guy sign a short deal at a reduced rate when it may be his last contract?
Hamhuis on the open market can get 5x5 for 25 or from Canucks 3x3 for 9 .
Which one would you take? - VANTEL
I don't t think he takes that big of a discount to stay in van ....if he resigns there you might not like the number per year tbh |

I have heard a few times from different media guys that Prust may have value once the deadline hits and teams can move him from Utica to their farm team and bring him up when they see fit

You can't prove what he thinking therefore the decision has to favour the refs. You can't leave a big loophole to give the players a reason to nail the ref. |
