Not a very big deal . We are in 24 th spot so I don't see us as a buyer. We just need to stay cap compliant. I think Hamhuis will get us a draft pick and maybe Vrbata . They will all be gone next year so wait out the next 4 months
- VANTEL

IMO they're concentrating on that 3rd place in the Pacific Division, so their overall standing means very little. The Canuck may finish bottom ten in the league and still make the playoffs, how sad is that.

For the playoffs. They can keep him down in the minors without affecting roster spots or cap space. Call him up in the playoffs.

If they took him off waivers he has to play in the NHL

Thank you.

I think Prust is too expensive for teams to take on his Salary. I think teams would much rather have Benning retain salary in exchange for a super late pick in order to get Prust.

They can try to make the playoffs , that is fine. Do it with this roster , don't give up picks to make a push.

Unfortunately we play the Sharks one day before the deadline. That would give us a true gauge of where we stand in the Pacific.

I see what you are getting at but in this instance I just can't get there. I run an Arena for a living and I've seen it dozens of times. You can tell when the player is lethargic or is cognitive of what's going on. To me Wideman knew exactly what he was doing...was just anger and stupidity.
- LordHumungous

So based on the tv shot of Wideman looking like he was pissed do you think it was him being concussed or just pissed because he had his bell rung?

Looks like Washington is going to hard after Hamhuis and will be watching him heavily upon his return.

Still like Hamhuis doing a Vermette for a reduced hometown discount to mentor our young D next couple of years ie. Hutton, Biega, Tryamkin, Pedan

Probably the most ideal situation. Now if only he signed a home town discount as well, we would be laughing

Back in the day he did sign a hometown discount to play in his home province in exchange for the NTC. He was worth more than what he signed for. We can all poo poo the NTC's now but Gilman got them a lower than market salary in exchange for that.

Why would a guy sign a short deal at a reduced rate when it may be his last contract?

Hamhuis on the open market can get 5x5 for 25 or from Canucks 3x3 for 9 .

Which one would you take?

No one knows how long his career is going to be but being the FA he has the choice of where to play and since he's already taken a hometown discount once, he may do it again.

What source Vantel did you get that he's worth 5x5? That would be a huge contract for him at this point in his career.

I'm opposed to drafting a Russian that high. Look at Provorov? nicushkin? To many uncertainties with the Russians. If we have a top 7 pick I want a Swede, Yank or Canadian. Perhaps one of the Finns but they haven't exactly lit up men's league.
- CanuckDon

Re: OV, Malkin, Kovalchuk.

Also you don't draft a player for what they are capable of now, you draft them for the atheleticism and raw potential they possess. This is what makes guys like Chychrun a no brainer top-5, not cause he's NHL ready cause you can't teach guys how to skate and have the instincts like that. Laine is a raw rookie, that combo of hands, shot and size pretty rare I a prospect, you're not drafting players very often because they're kids and just not ready.

20 teams will be eyeballing him over the summer. His current salary is 4.5 . Teams like Edmonton Pittsburrg Dallas Washington Ottawa Montreal Fla Boston will be serious bidders. I think the chances of him getting 5 mil per over 3 mil per are more realistic

Really looking forwards to tonight's game, it's the start of my holidays from work too. I'm thinking of drinking some craft beers. I know you guys are better for wine suggestions, but does anyone have any good craft beers to try?
- DariusKnight

When I was in Victoria last year I tried one from the Hoyne brewery called Dark Matter. Truly one of the best I have had and I think you can buy it in the lower mainland. It's a darker ale if you like that sort of thing.

I think Vantel has the right of it here. Defense is at a premium and the FA class is weak. That coupled with Salaries going up in general, I see hamuis getting between 4-5 mil for 4 or 5 no problem. He's better than Bieksa and will demand more money on the open market. I could see, however if he took a discount to go to a contender. Colorado/Dallas looks like good fits for Hammer, maybe they want to push this year

That's my favorite brewery in town, the guy is a friend and an avid beer nerd which makes him super fun to have a pint with. Dark Matter is Not too hoppy or heavy for a dark beer, but great flavour. Their Pilsner is dead on too.

I see EDM, DAL, FLA as potentially being the big players for him. The other teams are either cap strung or budget teams ie. Ott who won't go above their own internal caps.

Still it's nice to hope that Dan likes living in Van so much he doesn't need the money and decides to stay and be a mentor.....I'm overly optimistic here.

No way he gets 5x5 on July 1st. Not a chance. He's slow now, imagine 3+ years down the line.

what did Bauchemin get last offseason again?

edit: 3 for 13.5 at 35 years old

Hamhuis is younger, I'd say he gets at least this much.
