It will be interesting to see how MB deals with this mess in the offseason. this will define him as a GM.
It will not be easy but some of these guys need to be sent packing.
never seen a habs team so pathetic.

I'm just glad that he has been pinned as Montreal's greatest problem

he'll be less of a problem when Matthews takes over the top line centre spot. but at least you have Mitch Marner.

Who is he going to trade that has any value? Markov might get you a 2nd rd pick with his age/ salary. Plekanec is the one guy that would get you a decent return. The rest will get you mid to low rd picks.

Even if your perverted fantasy came true Desharnais would still get played ahead of him

cap space is very valuable.
sell the scrap for nothing and they'll be better off.

I don't think anyone expects a massive return for any of the players (not a lot of value) but it starts with the realization that this is probably gonna get worse before it gets better.

Ya, getting Markov and Plekanec off the books is valuable but only if you can replace them without over paying via free agency.

If they can sign a UFA at a good price to replace them, fine, that's the objective.
If they cannot, play the kids next year, or sign a plug PTO for the season like Fleischman, and draft high again next year, until kids are ready to take the spot.

Point is, they will never win with Plek and Markov in the lineup. And Eller too btw. Too much money for what they bring.

Everyone in the organization thinks the habs will always have a shot if they have Carey price in the line up.

Ya, but if you wait too long, price and patches will have new contracts and will probably be making 6 or 7 million dollars more between them.

that and revenue sharing.

Habs and leafs among other profitable teams are paying for contracts on other teams.

you can't expect the union to accept a cap and non-guaranteed contracts.
