Of course they could win with Pacioretty, Subban and Price. They need to build around them. Not by adding 4th liners, but by taking chances on talented kids. Like Sekac. It didn't work out, but that's the kind of move you need to try. Like Panarin in CHI. That one worked.
Problem with the Habs, they have very little to offer on the trade market.
So they're left with the draft... and we all know how that went over the past few years...

Why would you put Panarin and Sekac in even the same remote sphere?

Panarin's scoring patterns in the KHL per age are just below guys like Tarasenko and Kuznetsov. He has the third best season in KHL history for an U24 player. 10th best season for an U20 player.

Sekac's "breakout" season was 28 points in 47 games. The year before that he had one assist in 26 games.

Not even close.

Sekac's skates made the best overall sound as they cut the ice in the KHL

Because they were both signed as free agent, not drafted. And because Mtl was also in the race to get Panarin.
Keep up the good work

At least they will get a high draft pick this year. I also think they have two 2nd rdn picks.

The fact that Price looks injury prone is not helping them. It's not the first year that's a problem. Wich again makes you think that maybe they should trade him (even if they won't get two first round picks, two top Fw and two prospects for him).

Let's just hope they can bounce back next season, but I don't know.

his point was that Sekac is a talented player who was worth taking a shot on. yes he sucks, and yes, chances always were that he would be a useless NHLer, but it was still a move worth making.

Yo bro. Leafs are in on Jimmy Vesey. Hunter and Dubas know how to get REAL talent. Just like they got Hyman!
