There are actually quick fixes. Look what Minny did . Parise Sutter, before that they were total crap - VANTEL
they drafted the rest of their top 4 though, to be fair. |

Then you have just changed that recently because earlier you were all for making the playoffs . You didn't want the kids in a losing environmental. - VANTEL
No I haven't. As it stands sure, I'm hoping they make the playoffs with the group they have for the kids sake....but....I'm not hoping they spend 200 million dollars (on top on the players they have) on two 10 million dollar a year players to be only slightly closer to the second round. Makes NO sense. |

I never really fished for sturgeon growing up, mostly trout and pickerel (walleye). The swimming can be pretty sweet in the summer compared to most of BC. The northern part of the province is alright, but winters are hard. I'm not a huge fan of the south. Ottawa is alright but relatively boring IMO.
BC's as beautiful as it gets, but damned expensive. The maritimes seem pretty wicked so far, but the economic outlook is depressing. I have a pretty decent job though so it puts me in the top 10% here. Winters a milder than ON, but worse than the lower mainland obviously. Summer seems like it's going to be fantastic! The ocean gets up to 25C in the summer here at parlee beach, warmest water north of the Carolinas from what I understand. - golfingsince
I went to Cape Cod one summer. That water was freezing. Same as Atlantic City ocean. Florida was pretty sweet. Vancouvers ocean is nice . No complaints about the temperature. |

I agree. You live and die with the kids. However, in a fantasy world where those two huge FA signings are top 2 Dmen then my outlook changes. At that point, I think we're serious contenders. |

I remember weeks ago me saying I wanted a top pick and you were shaking your head no .
Part of that 200 mil was huge bonuses. Their annual cap hit is 400 K more than the twins. . |

But the recapture penalty will destroy them for years. |

I find myself becoming more and more of a draftist, I used to, and still do to some extent, believe you could be Cup competitive drafting wisely anywhere in the first three rounds.
Now I'm kinda leaning towards them needing a couple top five picks to really be competitive in the future...I'm so confused |

Meh, the ocean around Vancouver is pretty cold. Wreck beach can be fun but I usually liked Lucille lake past mid-July. The nice thing about here is if the water is too warm you just move further along the straight and the temperatures will drop. |

You can still compete and become champs without bottoming out, especially if you factor in losing for years. All it takes is one bad finish, maybe a good selection or two and you're there. There really is no absolute recipe for winning a cup IMO. |

....and they are barely a playoff team...not the greatest example? We need to develop our own. If a a UFA D wants to sign here and he is in his prime then sure add him. Our top prospects are off limits |

When you look at the FA's they've added they're pretty much a failure story. 4 pretty high profile guys in Suter, Vanek, Parise and Pomminville and they can still barely qualify. |

Top teams are created different ways and generally they do have some top 5 picks, but lots of teams with top 5 picks still suck years after. Toews and Kane are important but so are Keith, Brower, Bolland, Hjalmarson, byfuglien, Crawford, Kruger Saad etc. who were all taken in most cases outside of the first 2 rounds.
Interestingly, almost all those players were drafted before their top 5 picks. |

You need time to allow them to develop before the impact players step right into the lineup. |
