1.3 mil needs to be cut before Thursday , if Hamhuis is coming back. Waivers won't do it. Someone needs to be moved off the roster. |

I think Canucks should look at making an actual hockey trade like the Flames did for Hamilton . You see guys like Vatanen being up to be moved why not try to aquire him.
At Centre we have Hank right now but after that we have Bo Sutter McCann Vey . We also have Shink Boeser and a few high prospects . Maybe an offer something like McCann Boeser and CBJ second for a player of that ilk on D? - VANTEL
no way that McCann Boeser and a CBJ second would ever get moved for Vatanen. maybe one for one w/ McCann, but i would rather keep all of those and use the CBJ 2nd for a dman in the draft instead...
Boeser is the rare to find guy with a scorer touch and size... why trade that away... ??
i know you have to give to get, but i think 2 1sts and a 2nd for Vatanen is overpayment by a large amount. Hamhuis gets a 1st and prospect for a cup run on a team with a win now motive, not to mention Hamhuis stabilizes a backend...

Maybe I shouldn't have been so specific with naming players. The point I was going for is we are starting to get a back log at Centre. We need to upgrade 2 spots on D. To find / trade for one of the better yound Dmen is going to be costly. Shink and a second won't cut the cake.
This year we have the parts , the roster spot , and the cap space. We can do something big.
Enough with the Hamhuis. That ship has left port. |

We can't move or use Columbus' 2nd yet because we don't have it yet, and probably won't this draft. |

Just out of curiosity, where are you the $1.3m number from? You are the only one I've heard mention it. You'd think that the clowns on 1040 would be all over it by now.
Vrbata to MTL would clear that up nicely. |

Not necessarily. They might re-sign him for less & shorter term. |

Columbus won't be much better next season... they're down a legit center and whoever they get this draft won't replace him...
i'm sure the 2nd from the next draft will still be a decent pick... as it stands torts got us in position to draft some good players... he really did help us along in the retool department. |

I don't doubt it'll be a near first round pick, but you can't discount human denial. Columbus will keep assuming they'll be better next year until they are forced to give us the pick. |

Agreed.
I think with the back log that we identify 3 guys, Hank, McCann, and Horvat as being the middle three. Sutter plays wing with the Sedins and may move into a 2 or 3 role if McCann/ Horvat step up and Hank retires after this deal. If Hank doesn't retire, then he might slip down the depth chart to 2nd line and Sutter still plays wing.
Regardless, McCann and Horvat are penciled in with Hank/ Sutter as our top three centres.
if Cassels or someone else can prove themselves in the A as legit sureshot NHL'rs based on their play there and the occasional callup, well then those guys can be moved for a similar legit D prospect.
In the meantime and in between time, we need to use our cap space to sign Dmen UFAs... to 2-3 year deals. |

I think that ship has sailed and JB missed a chance to make that play. Montreal is not going to make the playoffs especially with Price out another month. He should have tried to move Vrbata there when Gallagher was out. |

Thats why I thought the other day of McCann and Vrbata for Theodore. Gives them a guy for win now and win later. We should be all over the Ducks trying to land Dmen. They have 8-9 NHL Dmen we have about 4 |

The clowns on 1040 were suggesting waive Prust yesterday.
We have approx 3.2 in cap space according to General Fanager. Hamhuis was on LTIR which means when he returns his 4.5 mil salary comes back on the books , because he was replaced his salary with players that came up. |

Not even close.
My point is you have about 10 mil you can use this year to IMPROVE. Bringing back an older slower player at a reduced salary is not an improvement.
I have been saying for months keep the money to make a splash.
Hamhuis is reliable. Even in his prime , we didn't win it all. Isn't the idea to build to win it all.
There are tons of replacements go find a real replacement, not just extend an older veteran whose body is breaking down year to year |

Well said and also bringing Hamhuis back albeit cheaper sends the wrong message to the fans. Gotta move past it. |

I can agree with this and Vantel's comment.
Hamhuis had a good run, but for an ill-advised hip check on Lucic, he might be wearing a ring today.
in any case, trade him at the deadline for the legit top pair d prospect Vantel covets and/ or a pick.
We don't need to move McCann, Boeser, or CBJ 2nd.
