Gotta get some of this John Scott stuff off my chest because of the sheer level or ridiculousness.
First off the guy is a proven scum bag on the ice with multiple suspensions under his belt. ...... But what I could never understand is how a story about someone who made the wrong, selfish decision at every turn can turn into the heartwarming underdog feel good story of the year. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Hrm... I can see some of your points and I respect your take on things. I don't quite agree though. The guy has played the role he's been asked to play. Has he crossed the line into scumbaggery....yeah, a few times. Does he have the talent to play in the NHL....not in the typical sense, again, it goes back to the role he's asked to play. Wilson brought him in to protect other players on the ice. (Myself, I'd argue how affective he was in that role...personally, I'm against fighting in the NHL.)
As far as my take on how the league responded and whether that's just or not...
I can see them approaching him and trying to talk him into gracefully backing out. "John, this isn't what we're trying to do here, we really want to highlight the leagues top talent, etc..etc...etc... But if they in anyway helped orchestrate the trade that saw him go to Montreal and get buried in the minors in order to try to keep him out of the game, that would be some extreme douchebaggery.
