I am just so tired of seeing vandevelde, white and umberger. I understand what people say about them but I would have rather Kassian over Vandevelde.

I would have tried Kassian, Tikhonov and Gormley.

Would have taken a chance.

I would waive Manning. Taken a chance on Gormley. With the way Manning and Medvedev seem to be going I don't think any of them have a clear hold on the position. If Manning got claimed I would just assume Gormley to the Manning role.

Edit: If Gormley struggled I would waive him and hope he sneaks through and bring Alt up.

There's a few I would have claimed. I would have considered Kassian, even with the off ice issues.

But the Pens top four has Lovejoy, Dumolin & Cole....and they traded Clendening

- Jsaquella

I've been asking for Kassian on these boards for along time now. He'd be a decent 3rd liner and be a huge upgrade over Matt Read as a net presence on the second unit.

Do you know that Gormley is better than Manning?

Well, I checked NHL 16, and aside from a one point (out of one hundred) advantage in checking, Gormley is the superior player. So yes.

looks like last year he only played 42 games and this year 6. 2013-14 looks like the only season he played a full year in the NHL at 73 games. Has to be a reason he can't stick

I get you.

I would like to see Raffl kill penalties. I thought him and Bellemare were effective.

I think Lappy and Mullen could be gone after this season. I think the PP has become stagnate and predictable.

- J35Bacher

I just don't get how a top 5 PP completely poops the bed this year, the only thing that has changed is Ghost for Streit and they both play the same role with a heavy shot so I don't see it as much of a change at all. G, V, Simmer and Schenn all still there, why can't they figure it out and score more?

To me it seems like way to much "pass first" and not enough putting the puck on net. Too much looking for the perfect bang bang play. That game against Minnesota a few weeks ago where Del Zotto had that sick goal in OT was awesome, but when they were coming in with the puck I was screaming at my TV for Jake/G (I forget who had it first) to shoot because I was worried they would pass and the one defender would get in the way. It was a nice play and a nice goal but they got lucky.

He's a defenseman, kind of a road jam there. Not sure he's better than anyone currently playing
- Jsaquella

Probably better than Umberger playing the wing.

No I don't, but then I'm not advocating waiving Manning to claim Gormley. Nor am I advocating claiming every player that is waived.

I feel he would be an upgrade over White and Vandevelde on the 4th line. I like how guys like him and Maroon have good enough skill to play on top 6 lines if needed.

Of course you can't claim everyone. I am not an idiot.

But when have the Flyers taken a chance on a claim of a young player. Look what is in the bottom 6 right now. Look at Manning. I think we have seen what type of player he is. Gormley was taken in the 1st round for a reason. I think I would take my chance on trying to get that potential out of Gormley.

Does what's best for young players such as Cousins and Straka come into play. Considering game situations, where if the Flyers have the lead in the 3rd period, that line probably wouldn't play much, and the same if they're behind. They'd wind up with 7-8 minutes if ice time per game. Maybe a little more depending on PP time.

I am all for bringing kids along slowly but isn't 3 years in the AHL bringing a kid along slow? at what point do you see what they can do? Maybe Cousins bring energy to the 4th line. Maybe Straka actually scores a few goals (didn't look bad in the few games he played last year). Maybe Weal contributes getting ice time. Maybe they don't. I just want to see kids get a chance.

There's a lot of factors that come into play in making decisions. Team building and roster management doesn't come down to just taking a chance on any player that becomes available. Before you waive Manning in order to take a chance on Gormley, it would help to know , or at least believe, that he's a better player.

I think you could see things change after the trade deadline. I think Hextall will be fairly active and if he can cut weight that isn't in the future(Vandevelde, White, Bellemare, Schultz) even if for low picks you could see changes in the lineup.

Right now with playoffs still a chance they won't be if they are 10-15 points out at the TDL then I think you'll see the transition.

And I get that.

But I believe one has more potential and one seems to be a 6/7 defenseman.

We do, and will continue to, until we:

1) Win a game
2) Make a trade

Then we're a playoff lock.

Thanks Bill. From what I saw last night, it was a game of .500 teams. It wasn't pretty, and our PK still has issues. Having Manning back in, and Umby, and White still playing didn't help the cause. In addition, the extended breaks seem to ruin any chance of a rhythm for the team to get into. Anyway, those late period goals are starting to become a bad habit. It looks like the team just quits when there is 4-5 minutes to go. I don't know if they just lack the energy to continue on, or if the team just doesn't have the talent, or if they start thinking about getting back to the locker room before the period ends. However, they have to keep their focus, and finish out the period. I would also work on the passing, and PK play every chance I would get. We have some good defensive forwards, so I don't know why the PK units keep getting torn apart. You would think that if those forwards are not going to contribute to the team scoring, the least that they could do is shine on special teams.
