No such thing as an easy play in the goal mouth with a lose puck and pressure coming down. He tried to pull it in with the stick and whiffed on it then went to cover it and polak jabbed it out from under his glove. He got no support on the play.

Can you tell me the last time you tried to cover a puck? Just wondering

Laughton's defensive struggles are hopefully driving home the point of how lucky we were to get a player like Couturier who could handle hard minutes as a center even as a teenager.

I think Laughton would be better off on the wing going forward where the defensive responsibilities aren't as great, and where he could hopefully use his speed and shot more often.

A lot of gloom and doom around here after one stinker in how many games? They win Thursday and all is forgotten.

THANK GOODNESS NONE OF THESE TEAMS THEY ARE LOSING AGAINST WILL BE IN THE PLAYOFFS!

Just making my points and avioding heated cheap shots. I love the Flyers more than any other organzation. With this said, I do not drink the koolaid. I do not believe the Flyers are perfect especially right now. If a player fails here, it doesn't mean they cannot succees somewhere. Especially young players.

It's apparent that you have no clue how systems can effect player usage and effectiveness. I'm a fan of hockey. I watch more than just Kings games and Vinny was not a good fit in the Flyers scheme and system. They had the right to rip him the way Kings fans have the right to rip Dustin brown for making 2 million dollars per goal so far this season. I have been a kings fan since the late 80s. Anyone could have made that same argument against us from 1995 to 2010... you don't have to be a fan of an elite team to know hockey and have intelligent insight on the sport.

You do realize your ripping on Ron Hextall who was our assistant GM responsible for player development. You do realize without Hextalls impact and influence, the Kings wouldn't have Jeff Carter or had Mike Richards. You do realize your ripping Ian Laperierre one of the grittiest, toughest and most honest players, as a man and former King. You do realize your ripping Kim Dillabaugh who Jonathan Quick credits as making him the goalie he is today. Before you run your mouth about coaching and management you should do your homework, because a major part of that staff was the Kings coaching staff during 2012 and a major part of La's first cup. You literally made no sensible argument. Your slam was "Flyers is not a good team". Learn how to speak English and make a coherent case to your point, or be quiet while adults are speaking.

I will give you credit for buttnuts though. That was pretty funny. Look maybe trolling and saying your team sucks my team rules because I say so is your style. To each his own. But don't rip me for being respectful to another teams fan base on their thread. It's been what 5 games with vinny, let's wait til June before anointing this guy the savior.

Read-Laughton-Gagner would be better, but still not good. I really think we need to spread the size and quality around the lineup more. Our top 6 does great, but our bottom 6 gets killed.

Stats from Appleyard on twitter.

Flyers with Giroux or Couturier at 5v5 this season:
55.7% GF
54.3% CF
47% OZ starts

Flyers without Giroux or Couturier at 5v5 this season:
42% GF
45.7% CF
51.5% OZ starts

Lack of a 3rd legit top 9 center is really hurting them. Bellemare and Laughton are 4th liners.

I do too.

I also am aware that as much as it is fun to watch them win, this team isn't a cup contender and they need an influx of talent and size I believe. I believe Hextal when reports indicate that the 17-18 season is when they will start to make their strides forward.

Next season we could see guys like Provorov, Morin, hagg and Konecny possibly in the lineup. After that may see Sanheim or Lindholm, Abel-Kubel, Fazleev. SO I see where 17-18 looks like the start of when you want to move forward.

It's frustrating knowing your not a contender but you want to see success.

I disagree that Laughton is a 4th liner... I just dont think he is at the NHL level defensively yet. Laughton will come around.. He has too many NHL level qualities not to.

Since you asked, yes, there is. It confirmed my suspicion that you don't actually know what you're talking about in this case and I have elected to not spend the rest of the day arguing over what it is like to cover a puck and whether it was a soft goal.

Those guys will definitely help and make a difference if they catch on quickly....but the Flyers aren't that far away. Their bottom 6 would be exposed in a playoff series and possibly down the stretch here, but they have goaltending, which can make things fun

Don't get me wrong, I like his potential. However, on 1/20/16, if you are keeping him at center, he is a 4th liner. I do think, if you move him to wing, he could probably succeed on a 3rd line.

A soft goal to me is one where a goalie should make a save and he doesnt.

That wasnt the case last night.. He made the save and when he went to paddle it in the heel of his stick hit the ice and caused him to miss the majority of the puck. The second time he corralled it, but because there was no defense, the player (Polak) had a free chance to poke the puck. It happened, it sucks, but I would not call it a soft goal. It was more of an unfortunate event.

That being said, had it not been for Mason, we lose that game by at least 4-5 goals.

I agree that he is probably better suited for wing, but the bigger problem is the lack of quality forwards outside of the top two lines.

Umberger has had about 12 golden chances in the past 2 weeks and has the accuracy of a penis pissing the morning after a sex marathon.

The bottom two lines were horrible last night. I would love to see Umby sit a game or two and see what a Weal-Laughton-Read line could do.
