I would rather just put Gagner in Umberbergers spot
- YuenglingJagr

Read-Laughton-Gagner would be better, but still not good. I really think we need to spread the size and quality around the lineup more. Our top 6 does great, but our bottom 6 gets killed.

Stats from Appleyard on twitter.

Flyers with Giroux or Couturier at 5v5 this season:
55.7% GF
54.3% CF
47% OZ starts

Flyers without Giroux or Couturier at 5v5 this season:

I didn't like the fight at all. Schenn is a lousy fighter and he's getting paid to generate offense, not to get his ass kicked.
- BiggE

You don't back down in that situation, you stand up for yourself. Kudos to Schenn for taking on a much bigger man.
If the rest of the team had fought back harder, maybe the outcome would've been different.

Problem is we don't have much "SIZE". That's why I would have taken a chance on a guy like Kassian for the bottom 6 of a guy like white in the lineup.

I mean look at Schenn even. He's not really a "big" guy. He tries to play big but he is more a tweener.

I would love to add some size in the draft this year. Or if they are making a trade bring size back in a deal.

You know though that is the one thing that bugs me about Mason. I know he played well but damn your goalie needs to have that covered. No way Polak should be able to push that under you.

The top goalies don't allow that in a game where your team is struggling.

So bring on the hate as I know I will get pummeled. For some reason I am just not a Mason fan.

- J35Bacher

Every top goalie has an occasional bad play. He fanned on it trying to bring it in with his stick. If the Flyers had the coverage they should've had, it wouldn't have happened.

Yikes. I knew it was bad, but didn't think it was that bad.

Hopefully Konecny can come in next year and help the bottom 6. Kid is dynamic.

Do good Coaches make their system work or do good Coaches find a role for each of their players and work to their strengths?

Peter Laviolette was fired due to being unwilling to tweek his system to be more defensive. We didn't have the players on defense to play such a system. Our last two Coaches in Berube and now Hakstol want a more fast skating, high tempo, aggressive attacking system, which is fine but I'm not so sure we have a group who are known to be fast skating or at least not every night. The roster still needs work, we all know this.

Vinny was known as a liability here. We wanted to force him out of Philly and/or force him out of hockey for cap relief. Vinny is player center in LA and is scoring. This is the bottomline. We can downplay what he's doing flaws and all but at the end of the day, a good team was able to work a limited player to their advanage.

I fear if Brayden Schenn is traded, the same will happen.

Lecavalier had similar productive stretches as a Flyer. It's window dressing.

I know.

I am just not a huge fan of his. He's ok. I am not in love like others are. I know all goalies give up softies. It happens. I just feel like when it happens to him it is at the most inopportune time for the team. They needed that puck covered. They weren't playing well but still had a lead.

I know the stats...it was the reason I wasnt against Voracek on the third line and have been critical of Laughton. I have said bottom 6 is weak link right now.

There are several ways to change it, and help is coming, but it is frustrating just sitting there rolling out the same lines when it is pretty clear wahts happening to two of them

It's been fun watching Couturier so far this year. He's tough to take off the puck when he has it.

You don't know this. You want to believe but we don't know this. LA simply has a better supporting cast.

Brayden Schenn has be given every chance to succeed. Top 6 minutes. Top powerplay. I can't fault the team if he doesn't become a consistent player. I think they have given him ample chances to become a top 6 forward.

He's probably been given more chances compared to couturier's career where sometimes he is saddled with wingers that bring nothing sometimes.

Not sure if this has been brought up yet, but why didn't they take a timeout with 7 seconds left to get Giroux out there to take the draw?

I share your sentiment about trading Schenn. I would prefer he stays. Vinny is getting a bit lucky with opportunity though...wouldn't read into it much more.

I'd agree. Even with the new coach, they still play down to competition. Last night is only one game, and they have been playing well, but you can't routinely piss away points like that and expect to get into the dance. I want them to make it, just don't think they can when you know they will lose points like this for the rest of the year.
- Hextall271

Yep. And the games against teams ahead of them are only going to get tougher as some of them have legit playoff chances.

He can't come fast enough. Hopefully Leier and Cousins can contribute in the bottom 6 too. It's just a poor mix right now.
