Did you really say points are not everything ?
- gerbe75pts

Yes , Two way players are at a premium as well . One of my all time favorite was Bob Gainey in Montreal . I can see Gus becoming that type of player. By the way Gainey made the hall of fame. Hockey people and players realized his worth.

Sam or Gus would be hard to swallow

I have to get over my Gus hard on I might be willing to part ways with him

- gerbe75pts

you need to get over it, Larsson will be fine on the third line, making Gus the best asset to move for a core player

Neither will be worth what they want. Some team trying to add the final piece to put them over the top to contend for the cup will overpay greatly. Its definitely a win/win for the jets. I like them going forward.
- Smittyx36

They certainly seem to have the right goaltender now and going forward, despite his play last night.

Is that what Drouin is?

Reinhart is better than Drouin... Am i the only one that sees Reinhart being a top 20 point producer yearly in this league? They take him off a line with ROR and he still produces. A hatrick! Reinhart, Eichel, Risto are my untouchables.
- Smittyx36

Better in terms of what? Dont get me wrong I like Reinhart alot and I dont think I would trade him for Drouin straight up right now. Yes im happy he got a hat trick last night and everyone is pumped on it. 1 of the goals was an empty netter and the other deflected off a jets skate So im not going to sit here and say hes a superstar right now because of it

Some of the proposals are correct in what it would take to get Drouin, meaning Girgensons or Reinhart, but my overall feeling toward this season is this:

Get rid of the UFA's you have no interest in coming back at the deadline, and perhaps even the ones you do have interest in bringing back.

Try to get rid of some of the dead weight, if at all possible, at the deadline, and if not then, during the offseason.

Stay the course with all the important pieces, see how they progress, likely draft top 5, where you get your impact winger who more fits the style of play the team has been built around, and then see if you can somehow get a top 2 D, whether that be a trade or FA.

IMO defensive forwards tend to get over rated.

Being in the right place is the most important thing a forward can do and a lot of it is coaching.

I would take the guy capable or skilled enough to score a lot over someone who is limited offensively

Druin would be nice to have, but he's currently playing in the AHL, it's not like he's taking the NHL by storm. Stay the course, lock up last place, and if you get Matthews, move Reinhart to wing. If you lose Matthews than pick Puljujari, or Laine, and one of them can fill the hole on wing just as easily and Druin, and it won't cost us Girgensons + to do it.

Neither is Drouin, which is both the point of those that want to trade for him while his perceived value is lower and the point of view of those that are apprehensive.

His goal before that against Detroit (I think) bounced off of a skate right to him next to an empty net.

He's one of the few on this team with any luck

Yes. I like Sam, but I don't think he ever scores more than 70 and likely will be a 50-60 point player at his prime.
- Zschalberg

oh my

nothing like getting a dig on a kid less then 24 hours after a hatty

skunk got a hatty in his 51st game in the nhl

is that the quickest for a sabre drafted to get a hatty in the blue and gold?

not right now, but you can see him growing before your eyes...into his role model...ROR.
I would love it if he played the same way as ROR does...that is far more valuable than what Drouin is on pace to become...a potential sniper who doesn't think he has D responsibilities. (Vanek anyone?)

That said, for larson and a 2nd, I take the guy and make him learn the team game concept. Team D, Team O.

No one is saying he is a superstar yet . But he keeps improving and learning he will be. Last night he showed he could rebound from taking a pounding. Would not have responded like that earlier this year . He is earning everything he gets.

drouin is first line potential

gus is not

larsson makes gus a viable asset to trade for drouin IMO

I somewhat miss the days when everyone was sick of waiting on potential.

drouin, eichel, skunk
kane, ror, 2016 first rd draft pick
foligno, larsson, 2016 free agent

I can get behind that group of 9 for the next few years

We have essentially the same perspective.

If I am going to trade someone like Girgensons, it is not going to be until after I have found out exactly where I am drafting, and maybe not even until I have made my first round pick, as it is likely after that where I will know for sure what I need, meaning top pair D help, with relation to what I am stocked at, meaning top 6-9 forwards.

yeah I am fine with him on a 2 or 3 year deal

then if you land yandle, and lehner gives you decent numbers in net, team is in really good shape IMO

Seeing it laid out like that, you certainly drive a hard bargain sir.

That said, I am not totally convinced about Drouin's ultimate production at the NHL level. The word mercurial comes to mind.

I expected him to be a 2:1 ration of assists to goals, I think that will happen when we get better goal scoring from the top lines
