Well considering I mentioned my concerns with the direction of the team and not so much my concerns with the current team, which you somehow managed to twist my words, should I even bother asking what your drinking?

I'm just talking hockey. I don't drink the koolaid, I can form a thought on my own. I can criticize my own and give my own opinions, which is what makes this message board interesting. If I've some how ruined your day, well it's not my problem that you have an extremely fragile ego.

Now which icon should I use to respond to you?

The 07/08 Red Wings and 08/09 Penguins were small. They had bigger players (Franzen and Malkin/Gill) but they were both small overall. And yes, they had elite players, but so do all teams who have won the Cup since 03/04. So as long as the players are good, I can do without a team that throws bone-crushing hit after hit, just give me skill.
- jmatchett383

No question.

I bring up my point of concern and what I'd like to see more of and suddenly the sky is falling. Elite players can have their way with any team, no matter their size, but there are undersized guys who struggle by being small at times. Jeff Skinner can have a great night and/or a night where he's really getting pushed around. Nathan Gerbe, very talented but he gets abused.

Giroux and Gostisbehere are small, do you think they get pushed around or have an issue competing? Brendan Gallagher, who is a shrimp gets injured and the Habs go in the crapper. He battles and gets to the net, and refuses to be denied. To use a corny saying, it's not the size of the dog, but the size of the fight in the dog. I used to think the same way, and was leary of small players. Not anymore. If you can play, you can play.
Probably the only reason why Gostisbehere was available in the 3rd round was because of his size. He's a been a difference maker as a rookie. A lot of teams screwed up passing him over.

It's amazing, the feeding frenzy over a comment where SSB just said he was concerned that they might be too small.

Yes, Chicago has won three Cups in the last 6 years.

LA has won two, and it won't surprise anyone if they win this year. All SSB said was that he was concerned that the Flyers would be too small -- Good Lord

Hell, looking at the original comment, all he said was that he preferred to be the Kings, Ducks and Bruins. Man. I don't always agree with how he does things, but damn

Their first round pick will likely be a forward with good size. Maybe Laine if we win the lottery and pick 3rd, Tkachuck if we end up around 5th, or Gauthier or Dubios if we end up around 10th. This site has us taking McLeod at #8. He's 6'2", 185 lbs, so that's a good height with room to add weight.

Size has to be accompanied by speed and or skill or it's worthless. Just look at Vinny and Umberger over the past season and a half for proof.

For the record. I said Brayden Schenn and Zac Rinaldo are pretty much the same player. One just gets the chance and the other only gets 3 minutes.

Its a simple fact.

This has been going on for a couple days now. He made a comment, someone contracdicted that comment, he contradicted that contradiction, etc..

The point is, he wants to believe that the Flyers are a small team that only invests in small players under Hextall, and that because Luke is gone we are even smaller (despite the small sample size Schenn had been getting). The Flyers have a bunch of guys that are coming up (possibly) over the next few years that are anything but small.. Morin, Hagg, Sanheim, Lindblom, Myers, Provorov, Ghoulbourne, etc. Because we drafted Konecny and added Weal, it doesnt mean we are turning into the munchkins of the NHL.

Also, just because Chicago is small now is absolutely not a correlation to what they were in 2010, when they won -- they were bigger then, with guys like Byfuglien, Ladd, a few others

Plus you add in the Bruins winning a Cup, it's not like SSB just walked in off the street, mouth foaming, and said that it's inconceivable that little teams can't win Cups

There's plenty of evidence that bigger teams win Cups, too

I appreciate the defense but I've been using this site for 10 years. I've been here long than anyone NOT named Jsaq, Ob18, Bodiva and Crims (sorry if I've left one or two names out. I remember when FF16 left because of this nonsense. I remember when MJL first came on to the scene.

I can take it. Most of these guys are wasting their breath.

I know its not true. I never once compared the two of them... they are completely different players. You kept mentioning how I compared them to each other.. so I played along. I was being facetious.

Ultimately, you need a wide variety of players to succeed and be the best. You need skill, speed, tenacity, smarts, strong, shifty, angry, aggressive, even-keeled, etc.

The Flyers are not same as the Flyers you or I grew up watching. The league isnt the same either.

No worries -- you didn't ask for assistance. But it's a false correlation to say that just because Chicago is small now that all three of their Cups were won by small teams

They weren't

I dont think you will find a single person on this site that thinks that the Hawks are small, play small, or only draft small players.

The point is... you dont need Milan Lucic to win a cup. That guys like Gallagher and Giroux are able to play physically without having the stature of others...

Thats it. The world isnt ending because we have gotten a few smaller more skilled forwards in the pipeline.

Hell, we were pretty damn successful while Danny B was here huh?

I'm not saying that having a team of guys 5'9 165 lb is a recipe for success. A good mix would be nice. But I just think the "they're too small" mantra that a few beat is mountains out of Rosehill's. They have guys like Voracek, Simmonds, and Couturier who are all 6'2". They aren't necessarily guys who run around hitting everything in their path, but they're guys who won't get pushed around, either. I'd rather have a guy who's 6'0 180 lb who's got great speed/offensive talents over a 6'7" guy like Boyle.

Now, I love Claude Giroux and I like the tenacity of Brendan Gallagher, but let's not ignore the fact that only Milan Lucic has a Cup of the three you listed, and that they played a heavier brand of hockey to get it
