He was made out to be a supremely skilled but lazy player. I'd say wrong on both accounts. He puts in good effort, but I'm not seeing this overwhelming skill at all. Haven't been impressed with his shot or passing and I'm downright disappointed with his puck handling. His skating is as advertised though. He can fly. - jfkst1
I agree with this assessment 100%. Spot on.
His best stickhandling / passing has been the same move over and over....fly into the zone, jam on the breaks, hit the guy streaking down the center lane. But even that hasn't connected a ton. |

The funny thing about this is that alot of my friends are Devils fans since I live in NJ and this is what they sound like at games. I guess when you go so long without any skill on your team you need something to look forward to. |

I wonder how many web hits they can say they got from the voting. Can't wait until they turn it over to SAP and it gets mangled into "The Pro Star Match between the Western League Metro and the New England Habituals." - Johnny Wrath
Now THAT is a game I want to watch! And right after they can show "Mennonites on Ice". They would have me hooked. |

Oh yeah. Him and Randy McKay are like gods to them. Well aside from Stevens and Brodeur who are actually worth of the praise. |

I don't know, man. I was at a game at CEC last year, and I heard a lot worse stuff (directed at me and not directed at me) than I hear at some Flyers games.
Philly fans in general are pure meatheads, but at least Flyers fans don't have the rap sheet that Eagles/Phillies fans have. We don't have a clean record, but I've rarely had an issue at a game. But I have had multiple issues at NJ games.
However, I've never had as much fun at a middle of the year game as I had in Nashville. Great place to catch a game. |

I don't think Simon or Sprong are ready for the NHL, Sheary looked good at the beginning, but has faded to nothing lately.. Soooo I'll pass on those guys. Cole is awful. Carries no value, probably can't be traded at this point. Perron is doing everything well but scoring. Kunitz hasn't been terrible lately, at least he's hitting everything that moves.. just can't find the back of the net. I'd rather let the kids develop where they should be and not (frank) up their development by throwing them in the Pens lineup. - j.boyd919
Sheary is quickly falling off my radar too. Sheary, Wilson, Porter...what's the difference between these guys? That group is 2 parts Nick Spaling and 1 part Zackh Boychuk.
Simon, Sprong, Pouliot, and Sundqvist all at least hold some potential. Those would be the guys I would be calling up, not the ones that simply bide their time in the AHL and look good down there. Simon could end up as Sheary 2.0 I'm afraid.
Cole -- I dont know where to sit with him. I loved him last year and borderline hate him this year. At times, I'd prefer to still have Bortuzzo, fairly lateral overall play but at least Bortz is physical and a RHD.

Randy McKay was a perfect fit for the era that he played. However, like Brad May in Buffalo, he's put up on some pedestal that is ridiculously undeserved. |

The difference is that Simon, Sprong, Pouliot, and Sundqvist need to develop where as Sheary, Porter, and Warsofsky do not. Although I see no down side in giving Simon a three game stint as a reward |

Perron is just not that good.
Kunitz is old.
Kessel is fat and good for about 1 quick rush a shift.
Meanwhile Kap scores the GW goal for Finland. - sammy87

Really Pouliot and Sundqvist will do their best developing in the NHL at this point, imo. I'm convinced of that. So, I don't disagree with your concept, but I still think they should be the first injury call ups.
And from the Pens-NHL perspective I dont think they will be worse than Porter, Sheary, and WarSOFFsky. |

When I think of the Devils, I think of Jay Pandolfo.
Best Devil ever was John Madden: undrafted college free agent who was an intelligent defensive player and shorthanded threat. Was anyone else there the night he and Randy McKay scored 4 goals apice? Garth Snow? |

Agree. What's the worst that could happen.....he might not score goals like the guys we have now. I'm guessing if you gave him 40 games with Sid or Geno he'd be able to score 4 goals. |

I see what you did there...
There's a very valid argument to Pouliot, but I don't agree on Sundqvist. This is his first full season on NA ice. I think he is very much benefitting from the AHL. He's not lighting it up like Simon. A lot of it is the types of players they are, but I'd still rather see a bigger point total from Sundqvist before declaring him NHL ready |

I don't know, Uncle Daddy was pretty good. Scott Niedermayer was kinda okay. Holik, Parise, and Elias weren't too bad. |

I agree with you. Sundqvist is not ready for the NHL IMO. Him, Simon and Sprong need more development before they are NHL regulars. Pouliot.. who the hell knows. I think he's a better option than Cole or Wars.. |

Simon is a player I'm looking forward to... everything so far is showing that he was a late round major steal. |

I think Pouliot will be up within the next month and he'll stay up for good. I remember reading somewhere that the plan was to have DP up around February. I agree though, better option than Cole and Warsoffsky.
Last night you could really see how slow Cole was when he was going back to the boards to grab a puck. |

Someone else told me Nashville was really awesome to go to. He said after the game they went to a bar wearing their Devils Jerseys and nobody cared. They didnt boo them or give them a hard time.
Some people call that cool. I think they just arent diehard enough out there in the 'Ville! |

I wish there were still players like Brad May in the league. All of a sudden it was like you either fight or play, May could do both pretty well. |

It's actually a pretty good hockey city. It's weird because the downtown area is really small and the arena is just kind of in the middle of it all. The fans are really into it (better than Caps fans, for sure). Definitely a fun time. |

And from all accounts John Madden is a great guy. The last time he wont the cup (I think it was with Chicago?) he brought it back to NJ and had a cup party at the place my friend worked at. My friend said he stayed all night signing autographs and was letting people take endless pictures with it and drink from it. My friend has a pic of him and John holding the cup together. Im still jealous to this day. |

I think at a point the people who had skill realized they didnt need to fight and focused more on developing said skills. |
