You do realize that there are only 11 players per team and they every team has to be represented, right? - jmatchett383

I did. And you have to, always have had to, so you can't just throw it out. That's not going to change, and don't bring up Toews/Scott, as the new format is divisional. So based on the rules of the game, he didn't deserve to go. |

I personally don't like that every team has to be represented. |

My top 6 ATM would be:
Perron-Crosby-Hornqvist
XXX-Makin-Kessel
In that empty spot they can slot in Kunitz, continue to slot Cullen there, give Bonino a try, stick in Bennett when he's healthy, or give Simon a few games test run. Right now the best option is Kunitz probably, but the point is that he's near replaceable with what he's currently bringing. If a trade comes up for Kunitz that helps us moving forward, I'm pulling the trigger. |

Again was never my point..I prefaced saying he was deserving of goin with those components in mind. You are arguing a point that I never made. But I never once said he deserved to go based on these current rules for this farce. |

What's exactly your definition of great? - acdc1206
Yea, Kunitz was pretty bad last night. That was "my hands fell off" version of Kooney. |

From what I saw, Kessel skated his ass off, especially in overtime. Just couldn't bury one. There was one play where Perron had Kunitz cross-crease for an easy pass but Perron being snakebitten wanted to try and exercise the demons.. all he had to do was pass it and game over.. I thought Kessel was going to bury one before having to backcheck on that rush. Mindboggling to see all the Leafs fans talk about how he doesnt backcheck or play defense.. where in all the games I've watched, it's been quite the opposite. Not physical, but solid with his stick, and definitely makes the effort to get back and make a play. - j.boyd919
He is soff on the boards, no doubt, and sometimes rushes a pass if a hit is imminent. But yea, Leafs fans strongly exaggerated this though. |

I don't expect him to be hard on the boards. That's not his game. Not gonna ask him to play something he isn't |

Kessel has been much better defensively than they made him out to be. Thought he would be more impressive offensively though. He doesn't pass well, can't one time effectively, and handles the puck very poorly for a top paid winger. Seems to need a good deal of time/space to get his shot off. - jfkst1
I envisioned a lot more snipes. Most of his goals are lucky goals or bounce off someone it seems. Not seeing the wicked wrist shot that 90% of his highlights are made up of. |

It's a meaningless game for fun for fans. If you were a fan of, say, the Devils, you'd probably want to see one of your players represented. |

Sadly..when this became a rule..the all star has suffered. I could be wrong..but back when the all star game was worth watching (that mario wayne picture from directly above center ice comes to mind) wasnt it just he best players regardless of team?
I know as a kid there was absolutely a time I loved watching the all star game. Its been about 15 years now that ive steadily lost interest...and when john scott was voted..and subsequently agreed to attend...this killed the last sliver of interest I had for it. |

Happens in the NHL, too. I mean, Malkin and Letang both made it.
IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT! - jmatchett383
Geno deserved it. Letang is in the same boat as Crosby. Only recently started deserving it. But the Met has a dearth of good defensemen so he got in off default. Who else were they going to send? Marc Staal or Dan Girardi? Only valid arguments would go to Carlesson or Niskanen. |

The skills competition is decently entertaining. The game itself isnt worth watching, imo. |

As far as I remember, back into the early 90s, every team had to have a player. What killed it was rampant expansion from 21 to 30 teams. |

WRT Letang: I know I'll get no support here, but honestly, from an entertainment standpoint, Gostisbehere at 3-on-3 would be amazing.
But I know that was not gonna happen. |

You may be correct..but I dont know if it was ever a rule until brad marsh...I remember when ottawa came into the league and the league forced brad marsh into the all star game...I remember that as the beginning of this crap...and well now u see how far it has gone. Bleh |

Toronto and Montreal are unique in that they are expressions of National identity. If the National identity of English speaking Canada is best represented by Gary Roberts, deserved or not I would likely give a pudgy sniper from Wisconsin a hard time. |

A flyers fan would..I think his inclusion to the all star game renders any accolades ever given to or for an all star being an all star completely void of merit |

He was made out to be a supremely skilled but lazy player. I'd say wrong on both accounts. He puts in good effort, but I'm not seeing this overwhelming skill at all. Haven't been impressed with his shot or passing and I'm downright disappointed with his puck handling. His skating is as advertised though. He can fly. |
