McQuaid got injured. If there were no injury he wouldn't have gotten suspended. - jfkst1
Yep. Although I'm not a McQuaid fan by any stretch, so I'm not upset that he was hurt (thankfully, seemingly no permanent issues, i.e. no conky/breaks). But yeah, if he pops back up, no issue. |

Big Buff for Sprong, Pouliot, and a second. Book it. - Victoro311
And the point of this would be to further devoid our organization with young talent for a RENTAL.

Unfortunately yes. Like I said, I don't want any more trades unless we are fleecing someone, but I have a bad feeling. |

I have a bad feeling too. I'm feeling really bad about every player Ruth brought here. I mean, it's almost tragic.
What the hell happened to Eric Fehr? He used to torment the Pens. Now he skates (slowely) from end to end always arriving after the puck is long gone. It's very tanner glass like. |

I'm actually optimistic that this is the year the Pens don't trade the farm for a rental. I'm hoping they go the other route and trade some of their guys away at the deadline. Kunitz, Perron, Cole & Lovejoy should all be shopped even if it is just for prospects and picks. Moving them would clear up +$9M in cap space for free agency.
Kessel - hate away but I would like to see the Pens play the asset game for once. Trade him for a high end prospect and picks and use the $6.8M in cap space in free agency. Yes, he is a great player but there will be plenty of replacements out there in FA who are equal to or better than he is.
Staal, Big Buff, Ladd, Erickson, Boedker, Lucic, Okposo and Backes all look like they will hit free agency. I would take the combination of any two of those players over having Kessel, Kunitz, Perron & the other fill ins. Let alone the assets you would get in trading them. I'm ok with them sucking for a season as long as they are retooling for next year and beyond.

Drouin + Carle/Coburn for Perron + Pouliot. I can feel it coming.
Much rather do the trade I had last night of Drouin + D'Angelo for Pouliot + Sprong
Fehr just last year was a pretty good player too.. Who the F knows anymore.

I wouldn't let Ruth make more trades. Frankly I'm inclined to ship out the entire player personnel department after the season before anything else is done. There's an old saying in business... "Those that break it are incapable of fixing it." Reason being they don't feel like they've made mistakes. It absolutely apply's to this situation.
F Perron. I hate him worse than Sutter. It's not even close IMO. |

Ladd is apparantly asking for 6.8 AAV over seven years. (frank) no to that at his age.
Erickson is old and mediocre.
I wouldn't mind buying one of Lucic, Boedker, Okposo, or Backes but I don't think we need to rid ourselves of Kessel to do that. We'd just have to clear Kunitz for sure and maybe let Perron walk.

I've heard okposo is looking for around 6. If that's true trading Kunitz, letting Perron walk, and letting go of other slack like lovejoy could be enough. Sprong, Bennett (when he's healthy), sundqvist, Pouliot and maybe Simon are possible roster players at reduced salaries. Id be ok with Ian Cole leaving as well. Solid player, but he's an overpaid 5th/6th dman and we have a few of those at a cheaper price in WBS |

Kyle Okposo is a near perfect pick up if he's actually a FA come this offseason. |

I ended up watching most of the game in a bar and I'm pretty bad at doing that so I may have been imagining it, but was Hornqvist playing left wing on a line with Kessel and Malkin? If Hornqvist learns how to play LW, and we sign Okposo that'd be perfect. |

Yeah, I don't think there is any chance Ladd gets that unless he goes on a shorter term contract but no way does he get that for 7 years. He is a really good player but just not for that term.
The reason I say move Kessel is because you can get say Okposo or Lucic to fill in his spot for a similar price and then have room to sign Big Buff. I really think he could fill that missing piece on the Pens back end.
