Provorov is the real deal. Sanhiem lots of skill but is going to need some time in the AHL. Konectny is going to be a 3rd line player maybe 2nd liner. I Like Lindbolm too, he will have a chance to be an everyday player in the nhl too.
- MrPerfect316

until we get an actual second line center and 1st line left winger and 2nd line left winger we are stuck with this mess. Coots is not a true 2c. People can say all they want but he just isnt. I had been hoping for b schenn to be a 2c but it seems he cant be counted on either for that unless the line juggeling and playing out of position has slowed his progression at this point. I guess if we actually win something it would be the draft lottery and pick mathews to be that 2c. The d is still a disaster and wont greatly improve next season either. We complain about the d but really the forwards arent to good either. No idea what happened to read but he has become useless and the entire 3rd line would be a good 4th line.

Absolutely. He's a total luxury that needs to be cashed in

I think the question is.. Who has been the best goalie this year so far?
IMO Neuvirth has outplayed Mason. I am interested to see how the rest of season goes. If Neuvirth keeps this level up. I would not trade him unless top prospects or 1sr rounders are involved.

Not trying to be a wiener, but what is up with sanheim on team canada's third pair? Haven't been following much outside of bill's writeups... Sounds like a coach has head up his ass

Neuvirth has outplayed Mason, but Mason has 3 plus years of very good to outstanding play as a Flyer, where Neuvirth has never been a full time starter.

Neuvirth is a guy who may well bring the Flyers a return that is worth more than he brings by staying, which is why some suggest trading him now might not be a bad idea. The same reason people suggest Simmonds as a possible trade chip-he's a guy that other teams may well overpay to acquire.

I see your point on simmonds however, he is the only big player we have that plays with size. La is proof you need big bodies that can skate. Simmonds is not moveable in my opinion.

If a team offers enough, I'd move anyone. Simmonds brings a lot of good things to the Flyers. He is the only consistent physical presence in the top 6. He scores more goals than anyone else. He's dynamite on the PP.

But if a team came along with the offer of a very good young player, a good prospect and a high pick, it'd be hard to say no. If you can use Simmonds to fill a couple or even three other holes...it's kind of like when they traded Recchi.

With Neuvirth and Mason contracts expiring at the same time, I would like to hold on to both to at least mid next year. See where they are at, and make a decision. I know Mason was great last year, I just hope we end up with the best guy in the long run.
I think Neuvirth may have had one bad game this year. I would definitely start him against the Habs.

I'd keep them both too, unless a great offer comes rolling in. That's sort of the point I'm making with him and Simmonds-and Streit for that matter.

They are guys that are helping the team and playing good. But they are also guys that another team might be willing to trade you a significant amount of assets for. That's when you have to weigh the value of keeping them vs the value of a trade.

I'd hold on to Nuevy unless I'm blown away. I'd be shopping Streit and Luke as my two big chips at the deadline. Like I was saying yesterday, if they move those two for a 1st and 2nd then we will head into this draft with 5 picks in the first two rounds.

We might have to hold some of streits salary to get a good pick/prospect though

Possibly, but not necessarily. I wouldn't let that hold up a deal though. They really need to cash in on him.

Drouin's agent goes public with trade demand

If I was Yzerman, I tell his agent that he's got a better chance of becoming a unicorn than of being traded.

Interesting. I wonder what would be wanted in exchange for him. I sure wouldnt send too much to tampa but would be interested to see what would it take. Would they be interested in B schenn or coots to start a deal.

Ok so what does Tampa actually need for him?

From us I think they'd want no less than Sanhiem as a starting piece.

He went 3rd overall. It would have to be a blue chip piece. Provorov, Sanhiem or Konecny to start the deal probably and then even it out with picks.

If I was Tampa, I'd tell his agent to (frank) off, that he has zero chance of being traded and that he's doing the kid a huge disservice

Not getting Stamkos signed has really handcuffed them with figuring something out for Drouin.

It did, but they still control Drouin. I'd let him rot. Right now, trading him is trading from a position of weakness. I'd tell the kid his agent put him in a bad spot and that a trade will not happen anytime soon.

That's probably what happens.

I have to imagine they'll be getting some pretty solid offers regardless though. Maybe its a draft floor deal...

That's more likely, or a deadline deal for NHL ready pieces

Thanks Bill. Would you be willing to do some analysis on how we have done since the Richards, and Carter trades? It has been a couple of years, but I really don't have confidence in most of the players that we have brought in. On paper they look like they possess a lot of upside, however on the ice there are a lot of questions still left unanswered; in my opinion. Have they had enough time to progress? Do you think Hexy is ready to turn the page on most of the players once the kids are brought up? For example, the Schenns, Coots, and Simmer are players that I would have expected more from, however it looks as if this season they have taken a step back. I still like G, and V-check, but two players don't make a whole team. In addition, this is probably the strongest goalie tandem that we have seen in a long time. This middling team has me puzzled on what the identity of this team really is. We are not going to bully anyone, we are not going to run and gun anyone, and we are not going to dominate anyone; we just try to survive, and stay in every game.

Rangers got 3 picks (2nd, 3rd and 7th) for Talbot... maybe Hexy could swing something like that for cost-controlled Neuvie.

I am pro all of this.

Having that much cap room-$13.1mm-as a sunk cost is a massive issue

- Jsaquella

Has to be addressed in some fashion, IMO. I acknowledge that the holes they have this season are too much to overcome, but does anyone really want to eat next season too as a team that has the gaping holes this one does?

Im ok with the players we have that you mentioned except for b schenn and l schenn. B schenn was suppose to be more and im not sure if playing out of position has something to do with it or not. At this point I would be inclined to find a trade parter for a legit 2c or a legit 1st left wing. L schenn has played well this year and I wouldnt mind keeping him around if his next contract would be at a lower amount. But it wont so trade him for whatever we can get.Coots does not belong on the 2c he is a 3c and did a fine job at that postion. Simmonds has been evertyhing he is suppose to be. However, playing with coots a lesser 2c offensively has probably hurt his numbers. He hits, fights, scores goals and a leader. He is the least of our concerns.
