Yeah, he should tell Drouin to suck it up for the rest of this season and then either keep him and fire Cooper if the team doesn't go on a nice playoff run or just trade Drouin for the best offer at the draft if TB does well in the playoffs. - Nucker101
Can you imagine if the Lightning deal Drouin and he becomes a star and Stamkos walks this summer? Would be amaaaaaaaaazing |

I've been jealous of them so I'd love nothing more than to see that happen. |

I've been thinking all day about a Drouin trade. I started off thinking that he might be worth a sizeable package of a decent roster guy, a good prospect and a higher pick.
I figured they'd be looking at something like Simmonds, Hagg & a 2nd or B. Schenn, Sanheim & a 2nd, for Drouin and maybe a pick coming back or prospect, and was kind of in favor of it. Drouin has scored comparably in PP/60min with some really good players-H. Sedin, Voracek & Pavel Datsyuk. He's right there in PP/60 with similarly aged players and does so in fewer minutes.
The issue I have is, this kid seems to want a spot handed to him. Tampa Bay is a deep team, and Cooper is a pretty smart coach, or at least seems to be a smart coach. I have no issue with a kid being forced to earn a job and this kid demanding a trade kind of makes me pause in terms of the mentality and character aspect of a potential deal.
Maybe he feels wronged. Maybe he feels that the Lightning lied to or misled him. Still given the likely asking price, I'd want to really do my homework on Drouin. I'm simply not comfortable trading Simmonds or one of the crown jewels of the system for a guy that may well be a malcontent.
A Drouin trade will be a bidding war situation, and those often don't work out for the teams that end up winning the "prize" |

Definitely risk there...always is. Not sure what I would do, if I am Hextall
But one thing I do know: There is a screaming organizational need for the position that kid plays. Doesn't mean he has to fill it, but damn, is there ever a need

7 points out of a playoff spot, 4 points out of dead last in the league. Face it, this team has basically no prayer of making the playoffs. All that's left is to move more vets for picks and hope for some lottery magic. - BiggE
this is what happens when you play like poop and go 0 for 3. every 5 day break they get, the result is the same.

The upside on the kid is incredible... there aren't many current or in-the-system players that I wouldn't throw into a deal for Drouin. |

Thats where I am. I think Simmonds would be the primary piece of a deal. If they want one of the top prospects + Simmonds then nah |

The Nordiques moved to Colorado and won a couple Stanley Cups, even though at the time, the Flyers got the "best" player. |

I got laid last night. Was kicking around the idea on twitter, then went out to play pick up roller hockey. Idea stayed in the back of my mind the entire time. |

Of course, a top five pick this summer might mean Laine.... |

Will never understand why pro sports makes this garbage seem like rocket science
In the real world, no one likes every single person they run across or meet. Sometimes, you can absolutely hate people
The Godfather wrote about this last year. Drouin and Cooper simply do not love each other, at all. They just extended the coach, so move the kid for the big return he is gonna get and move the (frank) on
But nope. They're gonna drag it out and drag it out and drag it out, because for some reason, keeping someone who the coach doesn't like and who the player doesn't want to play for makes sense to someone, somewhere
Move on and be done with it -- you chose the coach. Move on - AllInForFlyers
i'm all for this. what's to be gained by drawing a line in the sand when the player doesn't want to be there? it infects everything to drag it out. the deal doesn't have to be a deal from weakness. whenever a trade is being made, each side always wants to move on for some reason. find a partner and a good return and turn the page. |
