Canucks are currently 21st overall, only one team below them has played 35 games this year, Columbus. We could realistically be passed by 6 of the teams below before long. I'm thinking there could be a real possibility of a top 5 pick, who knows maybe a lottery win. Sutter is still a month + away then needs to get game shape, Sedin gets injured again...dare to dream.

Personally, i think our inability to win any face-offs is one of, if not this team's biggest issue. Its absolutely killing our puck possession play while more importantly, basically guaranteeing that the opposing team has the opportunity to get atleast 1-2 shots off per d-zone draw. - Whiskey-Tango
That's what I was saying too.
I hear malholtra is playing in the minors somewhere ... |

You will never get a bigger windfall than trading the twins this year. Too many sentimental fans . We are a bottom 7 team . Move Vrbata and Hamhuis. Waive Higgins and trade Burrows.
I don't see the desire to finish 15 th and be one and done.
Take our high draft pick, plus the bunch we get as sellers.
As you see over the last two games our style changes when we are not relying on Hank and Dan.
Pull that bandaid off Jim

I think coaching has got a lot to do with our play recently. I don't know why some people here are so high on Glen Glutzen? Canucks regressed in every category since AV left, the only constant since then is GG. Not that hard to see that. Get rid of GG and Lidster and get some competent D coach and special teams coach. Bring up Green and give him Defense. Get him acquainted at NHL level thinking and when the time is right give him the reigns. Giving rookie NHL coaches a HC job has to stop. AHL and Junior level coaching is at a much slower rate and usually a threat will get the players going. NHL level all players know that they will get paid no matter what and worst case scenario the team will fire the coach before trading away players. This is the reason why the Torts and the Keenans cant survive in this NHL. - Linden_4_Capt
I agree, I've been saying since last year that it's all to do with coaching. The D has no execution plan. The plan's supposed to come from whos behind the bench.
I like gulutzen becauses he's a do'r. he has a limited role so we havent seen what he can do....but during the torts days he was only guy who said....you guys need better instruction on how to forecheck, lets practice it today. He did that himself. Thats needed here.
I think we should offer the D coach role to Carlyle. Excellent D guy and strategist. Give him a leash with players so theres no whipping posts. Also give a window to head coach too if things go well. 1st he needs to restructure the D, after thats rolling perhaps he can help w special teams then See from there..... the current D coach bites the big one so why not |

The team needs NHL quality Dmen before firing the coaches and bringing in other teams throw away. Crawford, Carlyle, can stay on the where are they now list, and who gives a (frank). I know you've been advocating to fire Lidster but he doesn't have any quality to work with...Edler and Tanev are not quality1-2, maybe 3-4.
Lets say JB fires Lidster and brings in Carlyle and there is absolutely no change, what's next? The D suck, Edler has been better the last few games, but Tanev is making brain farts now, Weber is a disaster, Bart, Hutton and Biega are all 5,6,7.
If any one coach is to blame it's WD, his line choices and lack of structure are pretty lame. I have to say I'm quite disappointed.

Exactly, I don't see what all the sentiment is about...give them a chance to win the last couple years and go out as champs. As for us(Canucks fanbase), we should be worrying about the future of the franchise, not the sentiment of the Sedins.

So say we trade the Sedins and go all youth, how does that make us any different then the Oilers? Our stellar D? |

After tonight Edmonton will be 1 point behind, so there really is no difference...
Not that I'm advocating getting rid of the Sedins, it's just that both teams kinda suck |

I was more referring to the journey they went through to get where they are. I'd be fine being where they are now. |

We have the worst record since early Nov. We are playing the trap to make it through OT . Our D sucks , our cycle game is predictable. I don't know how much farther we can fall. |

OK so how is it then that we get guys from the farm, guys from other teams in Bartkowski, sbisa and weber and they ALL suck? No matter who we bring on the roster they all suck. Thats from the top down. There's no system here, no plan of execution in place. No wonder they look confused all the time. We have never had a quality D coach in many many years.
But I WILL agree with you that WD isn't cutting it. I'll agree we need higher skill on D but not that it is the cause.
But lets face it, D is clearly the teams biggest problem in winning games.
I would like to see us pick coaches individually based on performance and not let the head coach pick his buddies. Hand select each position. |
