Thing about Connectknees is he's ALWAYS noticeable. He was noticeable like this in training camp among men too. It's a rare trait. I remember them playing the Devils and there was what could be a star player in Zacha, and he was Mr. Invisible. Young kids can often be like that: hard to notice and inconsistent shift to shift. Konecny never fails to take control of a shift.
Jsaq is right I think, he's very reminiscent of G in ways. Amazing passer, great hands, great shot, and feisty and tenacious as all hell. But I reiterate: everyone who watches him, fan of whatever country or team, watches him in action and get their eyeballs glued to him. That's special. |

So the quantity of data shouldn't impact how many games is a sufficient sample size to make a conclusion? - Nucker101
You tell me, you decided that the sample size wasn't big enough to look at his GA60 stat. Certainly there are more shots attempted per game then there are goals. We're still talking about a player who is in his rookie season. Certainly there is a possibility that the player can get better.

49% CF is very poor when he gets 59% OZ starts. - Feanor
Maybe, maybe not. Have to look at his total shifts versus shifts that are zone starts to see just how representative the zone start data is of his total ES icetime. Lot's of factors are involved in a player CF%.

I'd like to put Provorov through a rigorous Billy Madison type situation before he can even go to the AHL. |

No, I said he should start this season in the AHL, not that he'd stay there long.
If the player earns it great if not spending time in the AHL or even back in juniors isn't always a bad thing to happen. |

Man. Watched Jagr's goal that puts him fourth all-time
He just keeps going and going and going. His speed and endurance are below the bar, but his strength and puck control are still well above average and his hockey sense and passing are still world-class
What a player. If you know that he wants to play and understand that his shifts are going to be really short, you are going to get production. I honestly think he will be able to play the half-wall on the PP for years to come...I think Chelios was still playing in the minors at 48. Jagr's won't go to the minors, but I don't know that he can't play a limited offensive role in the NHL at that age |

Probably not. When a guy sucks possession-wise despite favourable minutes for 20+ games then he's probably not that good.
- Nucker101
Yet, when I posted his GA60 on the other thread, you made the comment that it was too small of a sample size before deleting it. While Manning's possession numbers are not great for his usage and deployment, they're also not awful, at 49.10 at ES. Whatever metric we want to use, I view Manning as a 6/7 defenseman, and with all the other defenseman healthy, he should be at the bottom of the depth chart. I think he is a serviceable depth defenseman.
I agree I think Manning is a good fit at 6/7 with his low salary , giving a chance for our prospects to play and develop. I think he's better than we had in the past over the Hal Gill's ,Oskar Bartulis,Kent Huskins,Kurtis Foster, Bruno Gervais, Matt Walker, Andreas Lilja,Pavel Kubina. Hedy's just buying time till Hagg, Alt , Morin show there
ready . Even Manning had good numbers in the Ahl and having tough time putting up points here. Although he had a nice breakaway pass to Giroux against Van the other night and G hit crossbar . Not everyone can step in and contribute like Ghost . hopefully Sanheim and Provorov can be here soon .

Thus you need more games for GA/60 to be a sufficient enough sample size compared to shot attempts.
The goalie's save percentage when he's been on the ice is simple unsustainable.
What does it say that he's been lucky yet still looked like a depth dman at best? |

As with any stat it requires analysis. Certainly you can apply a bias and discount a stat, if it doesn't fit a narrative. I think it simply shows that while Manning is not a player that will carry play, he can certainly hold his own, and not be a liability out there. Can also judge all defenseman by the same standard. I prefer to take into account that Manning is a limited player to begin with, is a rookie, and is a 6/7 caliber NHL defenseman. When looked at from that perspective, I'm comfortable with Manning as a depth defenseman. He's also inexpensive on the cap. While he certainly should not be immune from objective criticism, as an example, I thought he had a pretty poor game, last time he played, he also doesn't deserve a lot of the vitriol he receives. |
