He's a lock for sure....Sanheim should be but Lumley didn't play him a lot and he was a healthy scratch yesterday ...Politics of Hockey Canada.

Bob McKenzie tweeted the reason Sanheim didn't play yesterday is because he's a lock to make the team

Thanks Bill. I agree that if the D stands up our forwards at the blue line, and is willing to block shots that will frustrate the Flyers. After that they start taking dumb penalties, or their effort to get into the O zone seems to drop.
I agree with the criticism of some of the penalties handed out last night; Read's goalie hit, and Simmer getting some extra minutes when it was clear that the CBJ player did a knee on thigh hit on V-check. Oh, and then there was the high stick where the CBJ player ran into the stick behind the play; Clarkson I think it was.
But on the other side of the coin, some of those penalties came at the wrong time, or were born out of frustration.
Finally, the first period was horrible again. I don't know why it takes the team a whole period to wake up, but we fell behind as usual. We might as well just skip the first period, and spot the other team a goal or two.
But in the teams defense, we don't have a true first D pairing, and our first line is really a second line, minus G of course, and our 3rd line is really another 4th line. Dump some contracts over the summer, and that might improve some things. In addition, add some upper level players, and quit wasting our goalie's effort. Good luck Hexy.

Not a fan of dmen who suck at puck possession.

It's not too small of a sample size to make that determination?

There's a lot of smaller quality players in the NHL today. I'm sure he will mature some physically.

Been having this discussion with others. Heard Recchi & Marchand suggested...to me he's similar to Claude.

I don't think he'll have a problem with his size in the new game. Can he put some more bulk on? Sure, but hell be fine. Question is will hexy want to wait til he's 20 to bring him on the team even if he's ready earlier

I plan on watching him every minute of this tourney and I'll try to form a better opinion on him. If he's a claude, that might work hahaha

I also thought he played great as well...he has potential to be exactly what the Flyers lack ... true # 1 cornerstone franchise D man.

It would be great if he can make that jump and add some speed and creativity to the lineup next season.

More willing to shoot, and maybe has more sand paper in his game than G does right now, but when I watched him, I saw a lot of Giroux.

Needs to add some weight, but the skills are there. I'm still kind of surprised he was there at 24. If the Flyers had traded down from 7 to say 11 or 12, I would have been good with taking him there.

Canada's best player easily in the two pre-tourney games thus far: Ottawa 67 Travis Konecny.

Dubinsky should have absolutely been tossed. How is that NOT intent to injure? What was he intending to do when he stuck his knee out? Send Voracek's nutsack a Christmas greeting?

For a good part of the season he was considered a lock for 10-15. The kid was a first over all pick in the OhL draft...he is an exciting prospect...Flyers lucky to have him.

Probably not. When a guy sucks possession-wise despite favourable minutes for 20+ games then he's probably not that good.

I doubt Schenn, Hagg & a 2nd are enough to get Kane out of Buffalo.
- Jsaquella

Maybe, though you have factor in Kane's recent injury history and his so-so production so far this year

Yet, when I posted his GA60 on the other thread, you made the comment that it was too small of a sample size before deleting it. While Manning's possession numbers are not great for his usage and deployment, they're also not awful, at 49.10 at ES. Whatever metric we want to use, I view Manning as a 6/7 defenseman, and with all the other defenseman healthy, he should be at the bottom of the depth chart. I think he is a serviceable depth defenseman.
