It's bite the bullet year. There's too many holes Nd not enough assets to fill them. You could replace the underperformance vets with guys from the farm and they wouldn't be worse and might even be better, but not better enough to make any real difference. Honestly, if you are rooting for a higher draft pick then Higgins should be your favourite player.

How the hell do we lose and move into a playoff position?

lol...so what is going on in Nanaimo anyway? I lived on the Island for a few years back in the mid 80's and it didn't seem like such a shathole...now it seems that the people there are actually de-evolving...WTF?

The Bettman loser point...what a joke.

I think DET made the playoffs last year with something like 16 loser points...

I for one hate giving a team that loses a point.

0 for the loser

I totally agree with this ....the loser point has to go ...I think 2 points for a win and 0 for a loss ...play OT 4 on 4 until someone scores and the loser gets nothing

The teams that win more are rewarded and the teams that lose more get a better feel for what they truly have ...might see more trades with teams trailing by a larger margin as well

Agree I never understood the rewarding failure thing. Bettman and his merry band of idiots argued the loser point would help clean up the standings and give the teams a clearer perspective entering the playoffs but it has done none of that. All it was meant for was so Gary can manipulate the standings and get his non-market non-playoff teams in the dance. A joke.

You wanna see scoring in OT? make it 4/4 and a mandatory 10 min. Winner gets 2 pts loser gets sweet FA. Then you will see teams trying their asses off to win in regulation instead of playing for the loser point and the three point games. My god Bettman is an idiot...

Baseball rewards failure. A guy who does his job 3 out of 10 times is considered a very good player. They even pay this player a million dollars a month to succeed 30% of the time.

Our society loves the loser.

I dont hate the loser point, it just doesn't make sense in the way its currently valued. Everyone in the world can see a 3-point system is the way to go.

As for the rest of the league/fans dumping on Vancouver for getting so many points for losing in overtime, the team would've got those points back when there were ties too, its the teams with the bonus points from shinny 3-on-3 and shootout that should be considered lucky

I don't get why hockey has to be so different after 60 minutes ...baseball doesn't go to 7 fielders then a homerun derby ...football doesn't change its manning ...basketball stays the same ...why is hockey constantly altering the way games are ended ?

It's easier for Bettman to manipulate the league with all the constant changes.

Would people rather go back to the tie?

There's nothing less satisfying then leaving the game, after spending two hundred per person on tickets, parking, refreshments and swag, and nobody won...

I would if it provided better hockey in the third periods rather than having teams play for the loser point in OT. Plus having to watch Garys boys manufacture phantom calls to get the games to OT to pump the 3/3 for the pathetic all star game. It really is sad.

It's easy:

4/4 for ten minutes with no shootout. you would have a 75% score rate if 4/4 was for ten minutes.

If it's a tie it's a tie. 1 point for each club and move on. We need these bloody teams to start playing for the win in regulation.

The only thing worse is when refs make phantom calls to try to help the trailing team win or just make calls to even out power plays. When there is too much game management.

What was with that elbowing penalty on Edler at the start of last game?

It was scrambly at the end of regulation, but I think I saw Jagr cross check Edler from behind, at the side of the net and tried to direct him to fall into the crease/on Miller.

Refs go from calling everything close to ignoring everything but gbh.

You're right, teams look at it and see that its easier to get the extra point in OT or shootout so the coast a little more or play more conservative. Making OT longer just means more miles on the legs in the season and I think that might actually motivate some guys to end it earlier

That being said, I dont mind the shootout as a form of resolution. It was just happening way too often and deciding too many games and would rather see more 4-on-4 to end games (3-on-3 is the worst).
