Both trade scenarios are garbage. Our 1st this year will be top 5. Id say Mathews is better now then Johansen let alone tossing in other assets, next year this team will be no better and could be worse. When your a bottom 5 team and will be for years you dont start dealing away 1st round picks. Wait 3 or 4 years I really dont know if or how much better he will be than either of Horvat or McCann. This team shouldnt start rushing a rebuild. We still have almost nothing on the back end.

Would you rather be guaranteed Johansen or possibly pick around 6/7 ?
Tough call but as an opposing fan id rather you not make either deal and not have RJ

I would be leery. He has been playing like a B type player this year. He admits being out of shape and lazy.

I would love last year's RJ

That talented kid is still there, he just needs to mature a bit and possibly be in a situation where there's no animosity. A fresh start.

A bird in hand is worth two in the bush, so they say, if we could trade Tanev and Horvat for him I'd be all over it.

Too me his ceiling is far higher than any of the pieces involved ...Mathews aside of corse

I agree in principle.
However
RJ would provide us a solid 2c behind Henrik (teaching him how to be a pro). And then hopefully a 1c.
The kid is like 23.

So this isn't the same scenario as big buff (which does not fit current trajectory.

As is often said on this site. You have to give to get.

With all that said, I really don't see Vancouver as being in a position to offer enough pieces to snag him during the year. Offseason would suit us much more.
Or when he gets to ufa!

We will still lose more than we win. If it is the young guys leading the charge, like last night, I don't mind a win.

For me it would depend on the draft pick.
28th pick?
No thanks.

I'll keep honey badger and his salary.
Teach all them prospects how to play.

But this comes down to the fundamental pov that draft picks are a gamble and Hansen is a known quantity.

If you can get a 1st for Hansen you take it run! In the summer he was discussed as being worth a 3rd round pic. He has had a decent run so you trade him for while he has value. Turn the tables for a second. Would you trade our first (if it was in the 20's ie Boeser or something similar) for a quality 3rd liner ? I certainly hope not

Would i trade Boeser for a 3rd liner? No.

What i'm saying is draft picks are not sure things.
For every Boeser their is a Patrick White.

Here's a comparison.
Would you trade Hansen for Jensen?

There are UFAs available this year like Shaw Raffl that might replace Hansen

Cool. i don't know much about Rafl. Flyers?
I'm not saying he's irreplaceable. I would package Hansen in a deal for the right player.

Horvat, Hansen and Subban for RJ.
