It's not a stretch to think that the Flyers front office is trying to get him to mutually agree to end his contract, which would save them millions of dollars over the years. If they were dumb enough to hire him as a piece of the puzzle for Laviolette's system, and then fire Laviolette, that's on them. From what I've read through Phila. news reports (a mistake, granted) it sounds like the organization has "leaked" anonymous statements that would paint Lecavalier in a bad light. I've gotten the impression they are trying to make it so unpleasant for him that he'll leave. This I find weaselly and unprofessional.

5on5 Vinny is the worst player, he is too slow. He was not brought here to be a role player, he was brought here to be a top 6 (2nd line center). If the Flyers could guarantee they would have 3 or 4 5on3 opportunities each game I guarantee he would be in the lineup every night. He would have had other chances somewhere else had he had waived his no trade. End of the day Homer f'd up and paid the guy who was on a decline and now the Flyers have to pay him. Even if he is getting a bad deal from the Flyers he is still being paid a ridiculous amount of money.

You may be right that he wasn't brought to Phila. to be a role player; that was my conjecture. He was quite possibly brought there to be a top 6 or even 4--but a top 6 or 4 in Laviolette's system. He doesn't fit in their new system, apparently, but he hasn't really been played enough so how would anyone know. Considering the play or Giroux and Voracek this year, you could make the argument that they are awful and overpaid and should be traded. They're not, and they shouldn't. The Flyers fired Laviolette impulsively three games into the season after signing Lecavalier to play for his system. The Flyers screwed up. They need to own up to it, eat part of his salary, and trade him to a good team. Given his history and professionalism, he deserves better. I still think that much of the hatred directed at him has been fomented by the media in Phila., and people keep parroting the same talking points.

I'd prefer not to. From what I've read, again, coming from the media in Phila. and again, quite possibly questionable, some of the language used to represent what the Flyers organization has said or done about the Lecavalier situation points in that direction. I don't live in Philly anymore, so I don't see all of the press conferences and articles written about them, anymore, but that also gives me some distance and ability not to find the Flyers faultless in anything they do just because they say so. They have handled this situation terribly. Eat salary, trade him, and move on.
