I was joking. Neither can I, nor would I want to.

Tough at this point to trade them ...take them away and you'll get a top pick ...but what happens to the rest of the youth when they are forced to be the go to

You said it before: even if we could find a team with the cap space we'd never get fair value. On the one hand it's too bad - you at least got something for Iginla - on the other, I'm ok with it. They are still awesome to watch and have some game left in them.

At this point all we have to show for the Iggy trade is a changing of the guard ...and that's fine with me

Sedins will retire Canucks ...or at least finish their contracts in van ...they don't want to go and you'll never get full value for them in a deal
- Redmile247

2 things...
Chances they don't retire Canucks is slim.
Lastly there is no issues about gettin value back if not.
The big Q would be which team would do a huge TDL n go for the cup?
Thats the u likely side of it n why no deal is likely ever.

You can be traded and still retire a Canuck. Look at Alfredson in Ottawa.

After a slow start it's amazing how fast the Kings are finding their stride and pulling away from everyone else in the Pacific.

He signed a 1 day contract with Ottawa to officially retire last season. He retired a Senator after deciding his back issues were too much to play again.

This kind of what I'd like to see if at all possible. The Sedins are class acts and great players and deserve to get a legit shot at another Cup run. It won't happen (if ever) this year but next year or the next ship them off to a contender at TDL and get what you can for them...with the agreement that they will sign back here the year after and retire. It can be done. And the picks/players we may receive in such a deal would go a long way to the future. They aren't winning a cup here so why not?

In order for this to happen you need to find a team willing to trade a lot of picks /assets and has cap room and is in contention

Lord, its really hard to say it'll never happen here.

Our 1994 run came out of nowhere....as did calgary and edmontons trip to the final....buffalo against dallas...carolina won the cup out of nowhere. things like that happen that aren't expected.

So yes we can win a cup here, but it's not the most projected/estimated thing this year or so.

Those days are over my friend. If the last 2-3 cup winners have shown us anything is that you have to be built for the playoffs in today's NHL. We aren't. The make the playoffs anything can happen days don't apply to us IMO. We will contend for a cup again...but it will be after the Sedins are gone unfortunately. I would like to see them get a shot elsewhere then retire here on a 1-2 year deal on the third line or something. I wish I could share your thoughts...just can't get there. Until Demko is developed and we have an established top 6 with top 4 D it's going to be a bit of a long haul for us. But also knew it was coming.

Benning will draft the pieces but another GM & Coach will be responsible for putting them into the right mix.

I agree with you...it doesnt look very good. We dont have the D, the quality of system or the coaching staff to get it done.

just sometimes things can happen....they aren't likely and even more so improbable, but never 100% out of the realm of possible. But if there's anything we know for absolute certain it's that you can NEVER, EVER count on the canucks to be as expected lol.

I see your point....although it did not prevent new jersey going to the cup either.

btw guys....when we are looking at those special runs that come from nowhere....1996 comes to mind when florida went to the finals in their 1st year in the league....they were a team built on an expansion draft....really unexpected.

Still recall the rats running on the ice and they have to stop for a break to round them up....rats became the team mascot during that time. Funny

I think that if the Canucks had any chance at a run in the playoffs it would be by trading Higgins, Hammer, Vrbata(toss Weber out a window) and then young guys coming in and playing with something to prove.

There were no rats running on the ice, they were throwing plastic rats on the ice after every goal, and it was Florida's 3rd yr in the league.
