So between Orpik, Niskanen, and Martin, which one were you willing to keep around given their age, ability and in comparison to the contracts they negotiated with other teams that we would have needed to meet? Orpik and Nisaknen are way overpaid and Paul-Mart, for as solid a player as he is, not only didn't want to be here anymore, but was getting on in years, which is one of the staple complaints we always have about our D.

Only Ehrhoff would have been worth keeping around and he didn't really show us much in his time here that we didn't think someone like Pouliot could provide for cheaper.

- thickman1178

Martin for sure. Cap hit takes Nisky out. Orpik takes Orpik out. Actually 6 years ago or so Orpik was a mean m'r f'r, we got nobody like that now.

I agree, and I think you'd agree some sort of Shake up is needed. Shero F'd is by going all in EVERY year, by trading all our high picks and prospects, and now GMJR who was hired to right the ship has done the exact same thing. He's traded 3 1st's and Despres for Perron, Kessel and Lovejoy... And this team is no better and officially now has no future... It's now or never.. We should have went the Detriot route... Yzerman/Lidstrom had Zetterberg/Datsyuk inslulating them in their older years and then passed the torch, now you have Zetterberg/Datysuk in their older years and the next generation of Tatar/Larkin/Nyquist are insulating them and are ready to receive the torch... Yes, Detroit is the model franchise of the league, but you can't have that if you don't draft and develop prospects... Right now we should ideally have 2-3 quality 20-23 year olds in the line up taking attention away from Sid and Geno and ready to take the torch... But we don't because we traded everything away and continue to do so hoping we can get the magic beans that finally brings us back to glory..... Ahhh I'm just frustrated where this team has gone.. And we've traded so many young assests the only way to get some back is trading a stud...

Anyways, I gotta hang some Christmas lights. Argue with you gents later! Lol

- Willaged

Officially has no future? Give me a break. We have 2 franchise goalies waiting in the wings and a good young defense and Sprong. 1-2 bad seasons in order to draft a couple franchise centres and we are just fine. Plus we'll be able to get first round picks for any and all of Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Letang and maybe Fleury when the time comes 5 years from now. Could you please exaggerate some more though?

I know ... the idea of putting a crappy player like Bennett with Crosby is embarrassing.
- Oneonta Penguin[/quote

lol, so let's put 2 old crappy players with Crosby, because that's (frank)ing brilliant.

Rather see Sprong and Bennett at this point. It can't get any worse.

Hynes should have got the job here all along, he was waiting patiently and deserved it.
- Dcoms

Meh, the organization wanted a clean break from what "wasn't working". I don't fault them at all for going a different direction.

This year is different. Sullivan should have replaced Johnston a month ago. A year + of under-performing is a long enough track record for a head coach. #BetterCallSull

I agree, for the 3M per price tag, I would have kept Martin. Also possibly Nisk.. He was young enough that the 7yr deal wouldn't have been completely awful.. Orpik, he has played well in Washington but that contract is too big and too long for his age for sure, team was smart to let him walk... 28 year old Brooks Orpik making 3.3M is missed on this team though!! big time

That Iverson comment was the most taken out of context comment in the history of sports. You know what he was talking about right? The media asked him why he missed practice and he said my best friend in the world died and I was at his funeral and you guys wanna talk about practice? And the media flipped it so it was like some rebellious thing.

Crosby can still technically take the draws, but I think we both know that Center might be a little too much skating for Sid "the Kid" right now, don't you?
- Misterbator

No. Skating is not Crosbys issue. Nor is it work ethic. It's bad puck luck and bad linemates.

Go to a thread or two ago when the Pens lost to the Oilers in the SO. There are some good samples there - jeropotato, smellmyfinger, etc. It's a good start.

And YES, there will be a test and a pop quiz!

Condon have played more games than Price.
- SPIDEROCKSTAR

And Condon has been good but it's not going to last. Think of the Hamburgler last year in Ottawa on a smaller scale.

My youngest son is 4 and he and I were watching some Penguins highlights—

"Dad?"

"Yes son?"

"Is that REALLY the best player in the world"

" No, son"

*switch to a Blackhawks game*

"That's the best player"

5 years from now if/when we recoup 1st round picks for the core we will be in a major rebuild. Murray, Dumolin,Pouliot, Mattaa and Sprong do not keep this team relevant on their own. That's why the Kessel deal shouldn't have been made, and a core piece moved this past off season, IMO. A re-tool vs a re-build after 3-4 more disappointing years.

You guys talk about people being negative on here like myself, Sammy and Oneonta.. But honestly it's just a big gang up if someone has a different vision than yours. None of my messages end in sarcastic comments or implying people who disagree are idoits. Those of you who looks through black and yellow glasses are the negative ones.. Anyone suggests something is wrong or a change needs to be made we are just the worlds dumbest hockey fans. My opinion vs yours... That is all.

My Nephew plays centre. He averages 4 goals and 3 assists per game. I'm 6'4", 240 pounds and my nephew is going to be bigger than me. I know that has nothing to do with anything but I love to brag about him every chance I get.

I dont mind Bennett with Sid. I at least thing they deserved a longer look together. Duper is the one really struggling on that line, he looks really bad, tbh.

Sprong with Sid is definitely something I'd like to see given a shot.

Perron-Sid-Sprong
^ And Im not worried about breaking up the Geno line, because Geno plays great with pretty much everyone

(or if Sprong can play left)

He play for the AAA Cyclones Dcom? If so those are very good numbers. If he's playing local rep hockey, protege may be a bit of an over statement! Lol.

I never said there wasn't something wrong but it's not as dire as you 3 make it seem. And those young guys you mentioned are a great start, much better players than we had before Crosby and Malkin got here and we had 2 cup appearances not long after we got them. I don't know of one team that has been a contender for the last 10 years that has a better young group than that. Don't say the Blackhawks because their prospect pool is not so great especially at defense. It's not that your u have a different opinion that bothers people about what you guys say. It's the fact that you think it's SOOOOOOOOOOO BAD. When it's really not that bad at all. Lots of good teams struggling so far. Parity makes the league more competitive but hurts the overall product because some teams should be much better than others. It's more fun that way. Right now any team can beat any team because the officiating is so completely discretionary instead of if it's a penalty in the rule book then call it. The refs think they are stars and act like premadonnas. Just look at how long it takes them to drop a puck on faceoffs. They do it because the want to throw a guy out of the faceoff so people notice the refs are even there. It's just a joke and the biggest reason why hockey is only number 1 in Canada, well that and because black people cant afford to play.

Not yet, he's too young, but if he keeps it up then the sky is the limit. And there's not another kid that produces anywhere close to him in hat I've seen.
