They have quietly played better hockey lately

Really like what I have seen from the Russian, Ghost is not a problem at ES thus far, and while I don't know what the metrics say, I know what the eye test is telling me: MDZ is a little beast back there for the Flyers

That dude is a player

3 Dmen that are skilled and skate well. What a concept!

Like I have said somewhere else in another forum, everyone has been too hard on Manning. Yes, he struggled earlier in the year, but he has played better the past five or six games he has been on the ice. I know pairing with Ghost has helped, but other than the one major turnover against the Isles, he hasn't been that bad. He has definitely played better than Schultz.

He and Luke actually looked decent together in the preseason games, so I don't think there will be any issue with him filling in for a couple. I hope Nick is okay, but his play recently showed it was his turn to sit for a game or two.

Why not? Giroux has been leading the team in everything else so far.

So, whatever the problem with Medvedev was, it looks like the message got through.

I'm not so sure it was a 'problem'. It's not like this organization has continually made bad decisions and been late to the trends that win championships in this league.

Scratching a veteran guy like Medvedev for a game because they got in a little rut is one thing.

Scratching a guy with his skill set for 6 games seems odd to me.

Defense gets some big props, especially Medvedev and Del Zotto. At least one of them should have been named in the 3 stars of the game. I'd like to see the Flyers work a forward out on D in case of an emergency, much like Kapanen was/did.

If they had to do something like that, I'd nominate Bellemare.

The guy skates and battles hard and has enough skill to pull it off.

That said, I don't think they would do that.

Very fun game to watch. Glad the Buckeyes blew out the Wolverines so I could watch this game a little dvr delay. Good to see L Schenn stick up for Schultz.

That's always been the knock on him. Very hot & cold and suspect in all zones.

I vaguely remember Bill saying, when both Straka and Raffl were signed around the same time, if Straka had Raffl's 2-way ability or Raffl had Straka's hands, that player would be in the NHL. Could be nice if you could just morph players into one!

Fun win yesterday, (frank) the Rags!

What I see from MDZ is a much much more physical player than last year. That guy is all over the forechecking forwards. I didn't know that he could get his nose dirty like this hopefully he holds up

He has played very well. He's not the biggest guy in the world, and I hope he doesn't start to break down as the season goes on. In a perfect world, he'd be a fine guy to anchor the 2nd pair, but it is what it is.

Ottawa on Tuesday. Even Berube had a 5 game win streak last year. But this team will need to put a streak together and avoid a rut to have any chance. Not sure if I see them becoming more consistent but they are playing together now more than before

We'll see, but it makes it much easier to watch when they are playing like they have in the past couple of games.

They were physically pushed around by Ottawa last game.
I wonder if they try to respond to that, or ignore it.

Hopefully they continue to skate well and get a better outcome.

I guess Manning will be back but I'd give Amac a shot here if Schultz is going to miss more then a game or two.

Yeah I'm not sure what they're doing with MacDonald. He's a better option than Manning IMO.

MDZ Gudas
Ghost Medvedev
MacDonald Schenn
