Rod Brind'Amour talked last night about Snider's puppet show. - MJL
That was really cool...spoke very well and really showed why some guys just get it .

It's hard to know who then becomes the puppet master. The problem with a corporate ownership can be lack of support at the corporate level and lack of understanding of what a sports team needs in leadership and organization that is different from the rest of the corporate entities. Recent long-term good teams like Detroit, P'burgh, and Chicago have a strong central owner/managing general partner with a passion for the game and a commitment to what it takes across the organization. (I'm not really sure how engaged Anschutz has been with the Kings.) - bodiva88
I am not sure what the numbers are, but would be curious.
Seems at least from a fan outside of the city, that the arena seems more empty. I dont think its too crazy to say profits are down. Although perhaps not as it seems more and more these days advertising is being shoved down our throats. So there has to be money coming in from that angle.
What I am getting at is it seems the fanbase has shown it will not blindly stay to follow a subpar product. Would think losing profits would provoke even corporate ownership.
Who knows. |

The Flyers as an organization has been through periods like this before, the fan base is alive and kicking.
Provoke them to do what? |

the 49ers suck now and they're making tons of money despite no one really wanting to watch them |

Could be worse. He has done some good things, and having a guy that is interested in the team is a good thing. Two edged sword when its overdone I think. - flyer_nutter
There is always more than meets the eye. The Flyers identity as a family-type organization and the way it has always willingly put all the resources its hockey people need into their hands are things most fans take for granted but are very much tied into Ed Snider and the people he's put in place to maintain it. |

One thing that kinda surprised me....I've never been to a flyer game where there were that many empty seats. |

It was 14 pounds over 8 1/2 months. Also it was a program the Flyers put him on. - bmeltzer
i find it funny that gaining a few pounds somehow made him "nhl" ready when he supposed to play a season or 4 in lehigh. |

It is.
There is no disputing that the fanbase has a solid foundation.
Go through a long enough period like this and we shall see. The glory days wont matter as much as the years go by and the nights to honour past greats wont garner as much attention.
Take someone that lets say became a fan post the "new nhl". It isn't that great.
All going back to the notion of things changing under Snider. They may get worse, or may improve. I dont think there should be a huge fear of things getting worse. Flyers have been for the most part behind the 8ball and one step behind league trends since the "new nhl". |

Ed likes people who share his vision of what Flyers represent. What better then to entrust your team to people who walked, talked and lived it...not sure why guys are always shocked by this.... |

Didn't see the speech yet but based on Hextall's new culture change and what Snider has always said he's wanted on the ice, I don't see a connection.

I think, and wont pretend to know all the details as I wasnt around in the 90's or pre that..
That the family approach has honestly helped make them one of the favoured destinations for free agents, and it seems like many past plyayers rave about that approach.
I also think that loyalty has (frank)ed them over quite a few times. Middle ground. Not sure the pendulum is in that middle position. Either one extreme or the other. |

If you don't think there should be a fear of things getting worse, then there is obviously a void in understanding the Flyers, and how they have operated, and what kind of owner Ed Snider is.

You can continue to live in those glory days and not face the reality that since the "new" NHL as an organization they have continously been behind league trends regarding to not only the cap.
You can also refer to me directly, I have no issue, we have all of our beliefs. The passive aggressive game is laughable. That scared of being banned? |

I hate the Devils but I also feel they are more loyal at times than the Flyers.

Well he's got a club thats for the most part floundering or riding "lightning in a bottle" ever since his pocket book couldnt buy him a team.

What you're posting above, as well as the Flyers being a puppet show, is all simply a myth. Can't even see the reasoning behind why they called up MacDonald instead of Straka or Cousins, how can anyone cast a legitimate critique of the organization as a whole?

You tell me Joe!
How do you think adding 14 lbs of muscle can help a player that is a smaller defenseman to begin with, to play in the NHL? |

They were loyal in the past I think.
Lately I am not so sure. Whether they were good moves or not, and I think most were..
Signing long term deals to, and getting rid of core players: Richards, Carter, JVR, Bryz. Doesnt scream loyalty. Handling of the Gagne situation on this last go around either.

Brind'Armour was the ideal type of Flyer you want in the game today. I tried getting responses in the last thread but I personally feel like the Flyers take depth guys for granted. When I look at having guys like Medvedev, Raffl, Read and Bellemare on the roster who were picked up somewhere else and not exclusively groomed and developed, this upsets me. Dave Hakstol could be added to this group. I feel like we're handing job away. |

Trades are part of the business, and don't have anything to do with loyalty. The guy they put in the Flyers Hall of Fame last night, was traded by the team.
