honestly i need to see them in some nhl games, but being that some were beating out nhl level players, you're not exactly throwing an i fant into artic waters by letting them play.
- JoeRussomanno

Beating out NHL level players is subjective.

I think we are in a way.

But we also have contracts that need to move. There was no reason to have Provorov playing 10-15 minutes a night in a manning role. I want him playing PP, PK and 20+ minutes in junior. Then next season if players are moved then see where he is at. Same with Sanheim. Morin and hagg could see action after the deadline if vets are moved off the blueline.

This is a rebuild.

because the koolaid would spoil, that's why.

Hextall has already said, even if a kid can play he will not be rushed.
Or something like that

I don't think trading Read would be hard. He would be a valuable player to a good team.
- MJL

I hope Hextall can pull it off at the TDL. Read is wearing a bit thin on me, I understand the injury last year, but he has shown nothing at all this year.

By the modern definition of a stud d-man in the NHL, I think he's well on his way.
- ThirdEye

I am not suggesting he is progressing poorly or doing anything he shouldn't be doing. I am just stating that perspective needs to be used

It is funny. I've never seen a troll take things so far. It's pretty great, actually.
- johndewar

I'm sorry that me being right about certain players, being finished, going to suck, overpaid, pointing out dumb moves by management and saying certain prospects should play, and how how this team would and has become bottom feeder, against the flyers hockeybuzz collective has turned me into a "troll".

From now on, I'll refer to him as MLJ. I don't think it matters too much, right?

Also Carolina has the benefit of allowing younger guys to play. They are rebuilding. They can live with the mistakes and feel it was better to have him with the team developing then playing back in college.

Flyers already had plenty of contracts and defenseman. Their window I believe starts I believe in two years. So allowing provorov and other prospects to play in ahl or juniors is better for the flyers long term

- J35Bacher

Canes would prefer to let their young guys stay in the AHL.

This was supposed to be

Hainsey-Faulk
Wisniewski-Liles
Hanifin-Murphy

But injuries have caused things to look MUCH different. Two years in a row that a significant injury has sunk the Canes plans before they even got started.

Hextall has said multiple times that it is better to be wrong about taking prospects too slowly, than being wrong about rushing them. It could be a little outdated way of thinking (as the NHL is ever evolving) but I do not think he is wrong. We won't know if he wouldve been better (I think he has over his short time last season) we can only be happy that he is playing well now. He has scored 2 goals and looked great on the PP but is still not taking on much defensively. Lets not act like he is a stud defenseman
- YuenglingJagr

No offense, but if he knew his team better start winning or else, it may be different.
That may have something to do with it.
Easier to be patient when the owner buys into the "ok to suck, and be patient" thing.

the problem with what hextall is saying is you're not rushing them by playing them now, the team sucks, they're not going anywhere. you sit them down and tell them, look this is on the job training, work on getting better, if we lose its not ok but it's less important than wirking on your game. they get ruined by rushing them i to a high expectations situation. are the fans gonna boo? yes but if they can't handle they'll never be ready.
- JoeRussomanno

I am sure if we didnt already have 8 veteran defensemen under contract that there would be more younger defensemen playing. I really have no idea what you expect. The young guys will get their chance it isnt as though the flyers are just sitting there letting them waste away while pretending to put together a hockey team at the NHL level.

I'd move away from Read, Streit, Schultz and Raffl. I still have faith in Simmonds, Schenn and Couturier. I'm on the fence with Luke Schenn.

In terms of tweeners, I wouldn't blink at moving Manning or Vandevelde. I like Bellemare but I think we overrate him.

I would have said Medvedev but it seems like his mistakes are more severe than Manning, or Schultz, (according to Babcock Jr).

Hard to believe no one could beat out Manning, or Schultz.

I personally think he is the force that has changed that mindset. I think it is for the better as well. Hextall has already shown how the model works, and he is executing the plan. He doesnt care what others think is the right way to do things because he feels he knows what is best, and has seen it work. I trust him more than people clueless about pro athlete training and rehabilitation, and use the fact that they had surgery a few times and lifted in high school as their argument

I would love to have Bellemare on the Canes, but I don't think he's much more than a pretty good 3rd line guy.
