I was impressed with Hanifin's 1 on 1 defensive ability...he even was a match for Voracek physically
- YuenglingJagr

He's been really really good for an 18 year old. It's kind of says everything about where the Canes are at that Hanifin, Pesce and Slavvin were our best defensemen and none of them have even 20 games of NHL experience.

Fire Ron Hainsey Into The Sun.

Sometimes it seems like your hitting the sauce early Joe, but you do have a point.
It makes you wonder when they say that a kid has to beat out a vet legitimately to stick with the club. None of these talented kids could beat out Schultz, or Manning?
I'd rather live with a young kids defensive issues knowing he has the potential to get much better, over a journeyman's "what you see is all that you will get" situation.
Maybe not all the kids, but when Provorov was selected, Button, and McGuire were raving that he could play now.
Makes you wonder.

wait a second... I'm hitting the sauce? he just tried to tell me by ghost being injured which basically means he was doing minimal conditioning, that he somehow got better. That goes against everything logical ever... when in fact it's usually the opposite... i maybe hitting the sauce but some people are drunk on the Kool aid

Ghost started skating again in January, and he was able to put on 15 pounds. He just wasn't cleared for contact till much later.

Don't underestimate how much misplaced faith Hakstol has in Manning.

Oh you are serious? Wow, okay.

He tore his ACL...he was most likely exercising and conditioning a month or two after surgery. He used the time off the ice to condition his body for the NHL and gained 20 pounds of muscle...not fat from sitting around and watching flyers games

He will be lonely there....maybe we should let Schultz come along for the ride. Pesce is one of the funniest names for an NHL hockey player btw

Am I alone in thinking that I would rather have Schenn than Schultz next year?

I don't know.

The Sun is exactly where I think one or both of the Schenn brothers end up after this year.

If the dollars were reasonable, I'd keep Luke. He's still young, and if paired with the right partner could still be a decent stay at home 4. If either Hagg or Morin progress and is ready next year, and let's say Hextall was willing to buck trend and keep Provorov around, you'd have Streit / Provorov, Morin / Ghost and Schenn / MDZ as potential pairs. The others are either traded or not resigned, maybe keep Manning as your 7th.

As much as it might be nice to get a pick for Streit, the better course is probably to keep him to mentor the young guys.

No I was only kidding about the sauce, (although your rant on Giroux was another story). As far as ability goes you would think he, or at least 2 more of the kids would have an inside track on an NHL job right away.
It's not as if everyone is expecting Provorov to beat out a Ray Bourque, or Glen Wesley led defense. And the thing about "playing without the puck", how many guys up here are guilty of this on many nights, as much as any kid learning the game?
Have a Digiorno for lunch, you'll feel better.

His parents seriously missed the boat on naming him Joe.

Yeah, I like Schenn a bit better, it comes down to $$ and who could bring more back in a deal.

Reasonable contract goes without saying. Not sure if he gets 3+ mill on the open market with the other names that are currently available.

Streit would all depend on whether or not Hextall envisions he will remain valuable for next TDL, and the trade market. I think he saw the market for defensemen last season and made the move with Coburn as a result. The good news is that Ghost on the PP has given him the ability to make the move if he desires.

I also think Morin will start next season in the AHL. I think Gudas/Manning would be fine as 7th and 8th defensemen. One will have to go if Vinny is around though
