They can call up another AHL guy if Gagner goes on IR. Probably Straka since the four centers are healthy.

Giroux was easily the best player on the ice most of the night.

I was impressed with Hanifin's 1 on 1 defensive ability...he even was a match for Voracek physically

Can't confuse being more talented, with being better currently as a player. You can do a lot of harm to a young player by putting them into a situation they're not ready for.

Raffl seemed to skate well, but he handled the puck like a grenade and seemed to be flubbing passes all night. Also, when he does get the puck, he seems hesitant and unsure of what to do with it. Gudas doesn't lack effort for sure, but he was really lucky a few times that Carolina didn't take advantage of his mistakes. In his defense, they are being forced to use him and MDZ to match up against other teams top lines and that is simply asking too much of them, IMO.

He gained 20 pounds. Also said he learned a lot watching. He needed to bulk up to handle the men in the NHL more than he needed to learn how to play hockey

I'm about ready to give up on Medvedev ever getting back in the lineup, but six weeks from now it would be nice to see Ghost and Streit both in the top 6. And Streit running the 2nd PP unit.

Sarcasm aside, when a young player clearly shows he's able to play at the NHL level, obviously you keep him up if you are able.

FWIW, Gostisbehere still has warts to his game, but at this point, he's probably more helped by playing at the NHL level than the AHL. Most expected him to be ready by mid season, injuries rushed the time table a bit.

Doesn't mean Straka or Cousins comes in and plays great. We saw Cousins last year, after being a productive AHLer, he simply couldn't score at the NHL level.

With Gostisbehere, you want him in a position to succeed initially so you don't completely murder his confidence. He played just under 17 minutes last night and 2 minutes of that was PP time, which is probably what you want until he shows he can carry a bigger load 5v5.

Yeah, he probably would look for other offers, but I'm fine with that. I'd be willing to go 2 years, 3 million, but that would be about it. No need to overpay an average player.

Might be the last season it's possible for Mr Schenn to get a photo like this taken.

I don't know what it was. I'm not even sure Malone knew what he did. Gagner fell like it was a slew foot, but I'm not sure Malone active slew footed him or if the act of Malone turning after the hit made it look that way.

Either way, I'm fine with PEB going after Malone. Poor Sam Gagner has gotten his ass kicked twice this year sticking up for other guys. Good to see someone return the favor for him.

Sometimes it seems like your hitting the sauce early Joe, but you do have a point.
It makes you wonder when they say that a kid has to beat out a vet legitimately to stick with the club. None of these talented kids could beat out Schultz, or Manning?
I'd rather live with a young kids defensive issues knowing he has the potential to get much better, over a journeyman's "what you see is all that you will get" situation.
Maybe not all the kids, but when Provorov was selected, Button, and McGuire were raving that he could play now.
Makes you wonder.
