Carl Hagelin for Ryan Strome

A 1st rounder as the center piece doesn't make sense for the Islanders who want to contend now. The only pieces that make sense from you guys is either Sekera or Nurse. - rangerdanger94
I can see the concern there. Would Schultz not interest them. I get his perception amongst fans is poor, but he's far from the problem in Edmonton and at least represents an adequate top-4 Dman going back. He won't be the center of attention on D like he was in Edmonton so his weakness would be far less noticeable.
I know their forward depth is excellent but is there a bad contract they may want to get rid of and replace with a cheaper one? A guy like Grabo perhaps?
Picks are still in play, including the 1st in my opinion. |

The Isles are closer to win now mode. It was already reported Snow wants an equivalent d man back. He isn't taking picks and prospects. That is really stupid for any team anyways unless you are selling to rebuild anyways and NOT with a 25 year old legit top 4 D like Hamonic.
How many 1st rounders turn into legit top top pairing d men? 1 out of 5? 10?
You probably have one in Nurse so I can see not giving him up but don't pretend you're getting Snow to not take an NHL player back in the deal. Maybe if this drags on and you have a top 3 pick. - tredbrta
I forget that Fayne has dropped off a lot this season. |

So Hamonic and Grabovski for Justin Schultz and a draft pick?
That's a very generous offer! |

That's the one reason why we may not get fleeced on a trade. We may get back equal talent, but it may cost us more.........which is sort of getting fleeced a little, but there's no way to avoid it now that it's public. - JohnScammo
Totally agree. Hammers contract is cheap compared to what similar top 4 dman are being paid. It will be easy to get takers for Hammer but what you get back will definitely cost you more if the talent is aligned. Sucks |

Another prospect of draft pick is not what the isles need. They need someone coming back to slot into their top four and give them what Hammer gives them. Prospects and draft picks don't do that. I don't see the isles moving Hammer to any team for picks/prospects. That f**ks the "D" for this season. One more big injury to one of the other top four guys and the isles would be in dire straits (no pun intended) - Jethro09
I know the optics don't always look great and your opinion of him might've been swayed over last season, but does Schultz give a solid top-4 replacement in your eyes? He's led our team of garbage Dmen in minutes pretty much since joining and I'm confident he'd thrive when surrounded by a better team (ala a more offensive Petry). |

Realistically, it would be Hamonic + for Nurse. - rangerdanger94
BAsed on current value it would be Nurse plus for Hamonic. Nurse looks like a future star so maybe he is untouchable - but upside is upside. How many realize it? |

Not many bad contracts on the Isles. Grabo and Kulemin seem overpriced, but they're quality depth players that would be difficult to replace.
I don't think Schultz has much value. The 1st obviously has value, but it would be like a Draisatl for Kronwall proposal. Yea, the value is close...but why the hell would the Oilers do that? It's the same for the Isles...why the hell would they move a young defenseman on an amazing contract in the prime of his career for a draft pick no matter how good it may be? |

I have to be honest, I haven't seen much of Edmonton or Shultz. I'd be completely guessing if I gave an answer. |

I disagree. That's like saying that on current value it would be Teuvo plus for Bogosian |

He has his warts as a Dman but has incredible talent. He came into the year playing exceptional hockey (the best I'd ever seen) but then got injured. He's close to coming back now, but he'll at least afford you a good breakout passer and a solid PP QB. I think not playing a feature role would help him a lot, but he brings a lot of the same elements as Leddy does. DeHaan, as well, to a degree. |

All depends on perspective. Right now, the Hawks might pay Teuvo plus for Bogosian.
The plus would have to include Bickell though. |

His warts are more like goiters.... but he may look better elsewhere. Petry sure did. |

I was thinking something like Hamonic, Grabo, and a 2nd for Schultz, Korpikoski, and a 1st. I'm likely the outlier among Oiler fans though. A lot of them have been reluctant to move any 1sts in the past. |

He reminds me of Matt Gilroy. I'm shocked he's still in the league. |

Exactly my point. Warts look like mountains when under a microscope. Sure he'd still be in a top-4, but he at least has guys like Leddy and Boychuk ahead of him taking the bigger assignments. |

Maybe I'm wrong, but people said very similar things about Petry when he was with us and how he's a #3 Dman on the top team in the league. Subban is certainly better than Leddy and there's never a guarantee, but I think he'd flourish behind such a potent offense due to the structure he's lacked in Edmonton prior to this year. |

Nah I think everybody always knew Petry was an NHL defenseman but was just in over his head. Kind of like AMAC only everybody knew AMAC was an AHL defenseman at best
A kid like Schultz can still be coached to be a serviceable NHL defenseman. He could turn out like a MDZ. The problem is that the Isles' coach is Cappy. |

considering how well hes playing, his age and his contract- I don't think theres a proposal out there that isles fans are gonna be happy with.
while on the flip side, the return theyre proposing is completely out of the question for the fans of the other team
they want all this value fully compensated asap. and I just don't see it working out that way if in fact snow is willing to agree to his trade demand |
