You're right.......but we will never know. We can only speculate at this point. Hey, he might be on this team all year. But then that begs the question, is the family emergency not that immediate that he can wait all year??? - kindlyrick
Could be a slew of things. Maybe his mom was diagnosed with cancer and is going to be battling for the next few years and wants to get there as soon as possible but also knowing he doesn't have to be there 24/7 at this current time. |

I disagree. He has been talking to GM's for over 6 weeks now so they know the deal already and have known for some time. Who cares that the rest of the league knows now because he isn't getting traded to any of them anyway. - Vukota
Right - He's been putting out feelers about Travis since camp -according to Staple - But do you think Garth revealed that Travis wanted out to other GM's? I wouldn't offer that info I was trying to trade him. Would you? |

Where was the need to be closer to family at the draft? We coulda kept Griff and traded Travis for more than just a pick. I am REALLY curious to find out the details of his thinking.
The term"business as usual" never applies to this team. There's always something unique that they have to deal with. - jmo16
The logical answer to that would be whatever devastating news he got about a family member came after the Draft and before camp started |

Evander Kane wanted out of Winnipeg since they were in Atlanta, and they got a pretty nice return for him. - eichiefs9

Of course the other GM's had to know it was something personal. You think they were just like hey the isles want to trade a young cost friendly Dman who is 3 years into a 7 yr deal for another Dman just like him for no reason? |

Only difference Kane probably would have went anywhere. Pretty limited with Hamonic |

If i was a betting man, id say you are probably right. Sucks......as if that family didnt go through enough losing their father (and husband) WAYYY too soon. Prayers are with them if thats the case.

Might not even be about a family member in western Canada, He may just hate (frank)ing NY and or his Fiancee hates it and they don't want to bring up a family here. If someone was ill I think they would have said that imho. No one really knows for sure. |

On paper, yes. But I think (and this was kind of confirmed by those McKenzie interview tweets) that Snow is going to be talking to nearly every team in the Western Conference, save for a few. I don't think Snow is nearly as handcuffed as most others appear to. |

I think Snow is asking for A LOT in return and its going to come down to one team just saying phuck it and over paying. Its a matter of who's gonna blink first. |

He was quoted as saying this:
“At the root of all this is a personal family matter of mine that I hold dear to my heart,” Hamonic said after practice, just one day after it his trade request was revealed.
“Things about my family have been well documented in the past. In this situation, that’s as far as I’m going to go: It’s a personal family matter. I probably wouldn’t want to get more into detail.”
That most certainly does not sound like his GF doesn't like LI, to me. |

True, in reality we don't know exactly how many teams he would be willing to go to. |

Yeah and Snow isn't the type of guy to fold his hand and walk away. Hell, he took Nelson down to the wire to get him to sign that contract. He was risking having to bench one of our best young players for an entire season. |

I would guard that info like my daughters virginity, after our car broke down outside a mexican roadside cantina—IF I had a daughter.
Never reveal your hand - You open up the convo asking what you want - not who you're willing to trade. Offer a prospect and sweeten the deal with Travis. If the rest of the team didn't know then how would other GMs?

They said he was almost in tears talking to the press so yeah I'm gonna say it has nothing to do with his GF and hating NY |

Yeah but its not your normal trading situation. The isles don't want to trade him. These other Gm's aren't stupid. If Snow doesn't say anything then they think something is wrong with him and they would never offer full value for him. If they know what the deal is they will realize there is nothing wrong with him and might offer a realistic offer. Teams just don't trade young top 4 dman on good deals for another Dman. C'mon man. GM's in this league talk all the time. Snow can't control what another GM decides to do with that info |
