the new team identity.

Without Virtanen I'm sure they have had zero hits last night, thank God Benning drafted him.

Moving on from that debacle last night...

Prust & Sbisa are back on the ice - YAY! - and it sounds like Markstrom will get the start in Montreal.

Here's the new blog:

Bad move
- VANTEL

Hansen has been playing well.

The makeup of the lines, balance of scoring and grit certainly needs some work. Would like to see an established winger moved just to shake up the core.

The team is struggling and it was frustrating to see them back on their heels and not playing with urgency, trailing all game.

Maybe some of this is just perception, WD thinks they are trying, but the results aren't there.

No one in the country club pushing the young guys. I would hate for them to take on their mild sedate attitude
- VANTEL

This of course is the danger. I'm hoping the energy of the youth coming in will outweigh the country club atmo that Hamhuis Edler Tanev Sedins Burrows Hansen Higgins Vrbata and a few other have become accustomed to. I think the country club atmo is disappearing a bit under Benning WD but more time is needed.

It is not just the country club atmosphere, think a lot of it has to do with personalities and their roles with the team. these core guys you list are largely quiet, calm to low key types, there is some energy there, Burrows I guess must talk a bit, but where is the swagger? If these guy are producing, there is a certain swagger or confidence, lately it has been missing for stretches.

I am quicker to overlook mistakes made by the kids than the vets, WD doesn't see it that way, hopefully as the season goes on, he will play the kids more and in different situations.

Good game last night. Hansen played a great game. His voice is funny though

Also, McCann is an exciting prospect. Game came down to who cleared pucks loose in front of the net better. There were plenty of scrambles where the Leafs got to the puck first and cleared it in front of Reimer. In front of Miller, the Leafs got to them first and scored some goals.
