Yup….so I'm not sure why they claimed him in the first place. - LeftCoaster
I think they picked him up as insurance. Injury insurance or to see if he surprised and beat out a veteran for a job. Low risk move (only costs the kid his development). |

Leafs have done nothing wrong, it's not against the rules or ethics to pluck a player and make them sit….the rules state they can do whatever they want with him once they claim him.
Canadiens are doing the same with Jared Tinordi, except the waiver claim part, he's sitting every game because they don't want to expose him to waivers. Feel bad for the kids but you know what, if they want to make the team…play better. - LeftCoaster
Within the rules, don't want to touch the term ethics, and would like to use the word spirit. I think the spirit of the rule involves opportunity for players that might not get a chance to play with one club, because that club is so deep that they are made available to another club where there is a need and opportunity.
The rule, i believe, is there to benefit the player more so than the club. Might be within the rules to sit him the whole time, doesn't mean it is right. Similar to the Canucks getting that 2nd round pick for Torts, trying to figure out why the outcry in one situation and not the other. |

I guess this is true to a certain respect, although ethically I disagree. And to me it's like a catch 22, you're not going to get better sitting in a press box, practicing is no where near the same to game intensity. |

Canucks wanted him playing and not sitting. What is better for the player. What would a ass organization do? |

For the record, I don't understand why they took him, or agree with it….but it's not against the rules is all I'm saying. |

Hands up everyone that thought we'd see Horvat, Virtanen, McCann, Hutton AND Shinkaruk on the #Canucks roster at the same time this season.
