I see some pieces here they can still build around. G and Jake, Coots, Mase. Laughton maybe.

Everyone else is starting to look movable for better fitting pieces.

I wouldn't be afraid to move some folks, though I understand patience

The better team won. It is the poor effort that is concerning.

Not the time to blow it up. Hexy would be selling low on almost every player. A small move maybe if it isn't a core player. Wait for the TDL and unload every vet not considered core you possibly can. Keep the youth (Laughton, Coots, B Schenn, D prospects, etc). Trade any D man you can. Any. Consider moving Nuevy. Look for young prospects at wing in return. Take draft picks secondary to 19-22 year olds. Play prospects to finish out the year in opened roster. Draft high and BPA, with forwards and goalie prospects consider higher if equal talent is evaluated. Next year will also be painful. Repeat process while also signing a few vets that could be trade chips at the draft but concentrate on giving prospects ice time if try earn it. Be competitive in 2017. #reload/rebuild

I honestly think effort had little to do with the performance this game. I think it has had less to do with a lot of the losses than people are saying. This is not a group that doesn't care, that treats games frivolously, that doesn't want to win. They just flat out are a mediocre team. I see guys competing hard on the walls, trying to do what they can most shifts, but when all you can do isn't all that much, well...nuts.

They need perfect performances to have a shot at winning if their opponents aren't going to hand it to them. This is basically last year minus the sterling PP and Voracek leading the Art Ross race. Nothing new -- just last year's struggles accentuated with this year's bad luck.

The Hakstol hate seems pretty curious and hasty considering we all knew what this team was. Have I been drooling over his work so far? Well no. But it's early and he's not Jesus Christ behind the bench. If Jesus were behind the bench, I even think he'd say, "Screw it," and go join the NJ Devils or something.

I love the idea of his system, unfortunately I don't love the players playing in it. If there's one thing I look forward to is tweaks as we progress even into seasons beyond this one. I heard a lot about Hakstol at UND being an incredibly versatile coach year to year, changing it up as the personnel indicates. So hopefully he will see problem areas and adjust. He may not be a cheerleader behind the bench, but he strikes me as a guy with a lot doing upstairs.

The dump ins have been curious, with even the top lines' controlled possession numbers dipping by a handful of percent. I don't know if this is what he likes or what he thinks the team's personnel dictates. They are an awful, slow NZ team, capable of being easily hemmed in in their d zone or stopped entering the opponent's, so idk. Could be both. Forwards entering usually don't have much speed and tend to be on the boards. This could be opponent strategy as much as anything. You can't skate it in and make dazzling plays if the ice isn't open to begin with.

"I think most of us felt they'd be a bubble team, but would likely miss playoffs. But after an encouraging, but inconsistent start, the issues remained and snowballed. Now it seems like the only time they have a shot to win, is when the goalie stands on his head.

I would not be amazed, if the losing continues in the manner it has, if we see a player move. Hextall is patient, but the situation is becoming toxic."

I have a feeling Simmonds will be moved soon. He would have value to a team that has a lot of finesse but could use a guy that will stand in front of the net to provide some garbage goals. EDM keeps popping into my mind

I honestly don't think they are trying to tank, they are this bad.

Timonen may have been aging and Coburn prone to a bonehead mistake or 2 now and then, but they were light years ahead of this bunch.

You cannot win in the NHL with a D made up of 4-7 guys. You just can't .

So I'm just going to look forward to the trade deadline and to a pick that should at least be in the top 10. As the Beatles so aptly put it, "it's getting better all the time, it can't get no worse"

The only move I see coming soon, is perhaps the waiving of Umberger and/or Gagner and/or Manning to free up room to bring up a player or 2. Trades will likely come at or near the deadline.

Thing with Edmonton is they have repeatedly refused to trade any of their young talent. Unless they've changed that philosophy, no deal.

Sick of excuses, sick of the " lack of effort" comments. DO something about it!!!
Hextall can't honestly believe this team can contend for a playoff spot. If he does... I want some of what ever it is he is smoking.

The (Frank)ing Leafs are a better hockey team than the Flyers. Look at that poop lineup and yet they compete
Maybe Mr Roboto should contact Babcock and ask for some pointers

Babcock, due to his body of work, commands respect. I don't think the Flyers have anywhere near that type of respect for Hakstol. The only way to change the on ice results is to change the on ice product. As I posted earlier, waive some dead weight and bring up some kids. Rookies will respect and follow any coach.

Look at the current group of forwards. The only 2 with any jump last night were Laughton and White, a rookie and a journeyman. The veterans, for the most part, need to go.

yup the corp of this team through the past 4 years has relatively been the same, two missed playoff trips and one series win don't cut it. let the culling begin.

That will probably be the last game I watch for a while. They just look so gun shy out there it's ridiculous. I don't think you can blame the coach a whole lot because this team's been lacking confidence for years.

Eagerly awaiting the trade deadline . . .

I agree with what you are saying but the Leafs are made up of spare parts and one solid young Dman. On paper the Flyers should be putting a better product on the ice. However they are not. I would waive or trade people now! Get the youth in the lineup.

A while back I suggested we take a run at Draisaitl but a couple of posters were really against it. He's doing pretty good though. With McDavid's injury though, I don't see them trading him anytime soon.

Just in case there's confusion, I'm on board with Hexy's plan, not much else you can do with the current cap situation. However, I will not subject my eyes to a team where half the players seems to have forgotten the basics of hockey
