Thanks Bill. Late night game, same results...blah. I thought during the summer that our team was more mobile than last seasons team, however this season many of the issues that we had still exist. On the bright side, this morning I did notice in the box score that we did well in faceoffs; 65%.
I still believe that we need someone to go to the net to create some interference. We are making the other goalie look like Vezina Trophy material.
Anyway, if the team continues down this path, I would start bringing up guys from the Phantoms to get their feet wet, and to get them hungry for some more playing time. It would also let the current Flyers roster know that their play is in question.

I thought simmonds was a good trade candidate, but then they signed him to a pretty great deal.
- YuenglingJagr

I'd be willing to trade anyone if the deal is a good one, but Simmonds is not someone I'd be actively shopping.

This team has a miserable time scoring at ES. That is nearly as big an issue as the dumpster fire defense core.
- PLindbergh31

I think that's the same issue.

You're wrong. Voracek's and Couturier's combined cap hit jumps from $6m this season to $12.58m next season. BSchenn, Gudas, and maybe Medvedev and Raffl need new contracts.

Vinny will not be on the Flyers next season.

- Feanor

I do think one of our Big 3 contracts needs to be gone. But Raffl isnt exactly doing himself any favors in contract negotiations. They have just under 9 million dollars with 17 players under contract (and AMac on flyers). 8 million with 18 players since a D on ELC is basically guaranteed. Half of that will be taken up by Schenn, so the flyers will most likely need to get rid of one of them.

I do wish Hextall traded Vinny with salary retained when he had the chance. The squeeze on contracts this summer was incredible. Completely killed the chance of us trading some of these contracts. Why would a team trade for Vinny or AMac when they can sign stempniak, tlusty, and boyes for peanuts. The only way out is using vinnys salary/cap hit as an advantage

There are other sites, though not as good, that you could use to show us the light. I am interested

How do you think Hextall picking up the phone now, canvassing the league for deals would look now, to other teams?
- MJL

it would look like he is trying to improve his club. much like other gms are trying to do.

Yeah, Raffl is probably regretting not cashing in on his 20 goal season in the summer, but I don't think we can rely on Vinny retiring after 16-17. That might have been the plan when he signed, but I don't think he wants to go out as a healthy scratch.

in amacs case I agree. there is no way anyone is taking vinny even if the flyers keep the maximum allowed. at this point they would have to include a big time sweetner is my guess.
- rinaldo

Vinnys salary is much less than his cap hit at this point. So while he isnt worth his cap hit, he could be worth his salary

Some mobile puck moving dmen with good skill will certainly help. How long away is that? 3-4 years?

I disagree. no one wants him at all... he is not worth paying him anything. name one team that would want to pay him millions of dollars?

I'm not wrong. I'm aware of the Flyers cap commitments for next season, and who needs to be re-signed. I've looked at the numbers. It would be a mistake in my opinion.

I think you're ignoring the detrimental effects of having Vinny as the 14th forward. Do you think Hextall really wants another season of not being able to promote a young, skilled forward prospect when there are multiple injuries? Cousins waiver eligibility ends after this season so if he's not on the flyers he could very well be lost to waivers.

I think Ghost will be on the team this season, or by the start of next season at the latest. By next October he'll be 23 years old and in the final year of his ELC.

I'm hoping Ghost can be a Torey Krug clone. Is that unreasonable? He already had a 40 point NHL season under his belt as Ghost's current age.

No, I don't think so. I was going to mention Krug as a comparable.

Ghost might already be in the NHL if not for the knee injury. He's still only played 14 AHL games.

If he doesn't wake up and retire they will certainly buy out Vinny and I could also see them waiving RJ. However, I very much doubt they buy out AMac. That would leave them with 8 years of dead space on their cap. Assuming they move Streit and one other veteran Dman at the deadline and they don't re-sign Medvedev and Manning, they will only have 3 or 4 vet Dmen under contract next year.

My guess is that AMac returns to his 4/5 role next year. Then, when he only has 3 years left, perhaps they can deal him somewhere. Even if they have to retain 1.5 million or so to get the deal done, it's the better move in relation to the cap.

I want these stiffs gone this summer if no trade can be made. I'm not waiting any longer. Stiffs need to be unloaded. AMac isnt a dman I want on a contender. Bury Rj in the minors. Again, Anaheim and Nashville are two teams that keep plugging along and they've made cost cutting moves along the way with no problems (Pronger, suter)

This is a 23 man Flyers roster for 16-17 which includes Vinny, but lets Raffl and Medvedev go. Even using ELCs wherever possible it would be over a cap of $72m, and the cap might not even be that high.

Giroux ~ 8.275
Voracek ~ 8.25
MacDonald ~ 5
Streit ~ 5.25
Umberger ~ 4.6
Lecavalier ~ 4.5
Mason ~ 4.1
Couturier ~ 4.33
BSchenn ~ 4
Simmonds ~ 3.975
MDZ ~ 3.875
Read ~ 3.625
Schultz ~ 2.25
Neuvirth ~ 1.625
Gudas ~ 2
Cousins ~ 1

Konecny ~ 0.925
Provorov ~ 0.925
Gostisbehere ~ 0.863
Laughton ~ 0.863
Leier ~ 0.7796
VandeVelde ~ 0.7125
Bellemare ~ 0.7125
TOTAL ~ 72.4356

Do you think that the Pronger trade by Anaheim and Suter leaving as a top free agent is comparable to the situation with the Flyers concerning Umberger and Lecavalier?
