Medvedev flying back to Philly with injury.

So, it appears Hakstol isn't crazy after all

Player usage matters breaux.

how many great chances have you seen him squander? Guy just doesn't put the puck in the net.

I don't think he'll ever be a guy who carries a line offensively but he can drive possession if given easier minutes and create more opportunities for his wingers.

The problem might very well be the standards you're using. All of those players you named are 1st line players, and among the NHL elite. Those teams are deep enough that they can afford to play a 1st line player on the 2nd line.

- MJL

Those are extreme examples, but they are indicative of what is needed to be contenders, which by itself is a very high bar...just like contending teams need a steady to good goalie , a #1 D, a good first line, they also need the dangerous guys on 2nd/3rd line who are genuine threats to score at any time in playoff games.

Who are our dangerous offensive threats outside the 1st line at ES in clutch games? Or who do you project to be those guys? The offensive development at ES of all 4 players I mentioned has been pretty flat, though Couts has his role factoring into it (I still have my doubts there, even with that, but never mind those doubts..).

Currently, I don't think you can with any confidence say you will be able to craft a projected 2nd line on a contending team from any 3 of our forwards that do not include Giroux or Voracek. Maybe you can't say you can't, but after 4 years, I was hoping for a higher standard by now, that you can say you can.

That was the original lament...in difficult games, in ES, our non 1st lines are tepid, mushy and largely invisible, except for occasional random bursts. Maybe Konecny rides to the rescue. He seems to have a little bit of that swagger that is missing in our dutiful, gamer forwards outside 28 and 93.

Gotta get back to work else I will never leave office.

All i'm saying is when I watch him play I don't see a great offensive flare, I was expecting more out of him and am a little dissapointed. He is still young but has been in the league a while now.

I think a good line is made up of more that one player. I think the biggest issue with the Flyers is with the mix of players. I've said on this thread, and many times in the past, the Flyers need an offensive catalyst for the 2nd line. None of that means that Couturier can't be a quality 2nd line center for the Flyers and on a top team. There aren't many players in the league who can do it on their own.

Would you like others to read up on rather than get your hopes up for 1 player?

yup, from what I've seen about this draft class, I don't think they can lose with a top 10 pick and it's looking more and more like that is where they will be.
