Some of his lineup decisions are confusing as (frank) but I guess he has to try changing something.
- Nucker101

I wonder if him and Hexy both agree the team isn't good and they're just making these decisions to see what they have and see what players can do in different situations.

Bill what's your honest assessment of Hakstol so far? I know the team isn't winning but do you think he's showing signs he'll be a good coach in a few years?
- 2Real

I'm not Bill, but I'll take a stab.

I think it's way to early to tell and, until he gets some better players, very hard to judge. Scotty (frank)ing Bowman would have a hard time winning with this crew.

Hextall will not want Vinny's $4.5m cap hit making it impossible for them to call up young players again next season.
- Feanor

We don't know that it will. I expect a number of changes made between now and next season, possibly including trades of high priced veterans such as Streit. Part of looking at the cap in the future is making projections with speculation involved. I think this team will look significantly different next year. Bottom line is that I believe without question that taking on any cap issues is best done in the short term, rather than prolonging it into more of the future. I would absolutely not buyout Lecavalier, unless I absolutely had to, and was forced to.

I've been trying think of a new nickname. Wheels has had a decent run.

Nazgul is a decent one for Umberger, MacDonald and LeCavalier. I guess thats 3 not four. Wanted something for the collective group, and was down to Nazgul or Borg.

(frank)ing keep coming back over and over, when they should be gone. Sucking the life out of everything they come near.

Voracek for Sbisa.
- Marwood

Sbisa at one time was playing fourth line wing for the Flyers.

(frank) they are such a pile of poop.

How Holmgren still is employed by the organization is sickening.

- flyer_nutter

Oh he's here. Right now he's giving a slide show to Danny Briere about how he was able to structure the Vinny contract and the process that went into the signing. Required material for the course are a pair of orange sunglasses, a large bag of popcorn, and a copy of Holmer's excel flyers cap sheet with the columns listed as "2013-14", "2014-15", and "cross that bridge when we get to it"

plus the occasional bevy of lineup changes makes it look less like straight tanking......i truly believe they kind of knew they would be really close to the bottom this year and are ok with it

Way too soon to tell. He has done some good things -- running a solid training camp, for starters -- and some things that have left himself open to second-guessing. We'll see how the team evolves in the months to come. Until then, I don't think it's fair to pass judgment one way or the other.

That said, I think the team on the ice so far looks a whole lot like it did under Craig Berube, which is perhaps to be expected.

By midway through last season, when the heat really started piling on Berube, he had coached roughly 120 or so NHL games and had many years of experience both as an NHL player and assistant coach. That's a bit different than judging a former college coach, who never played nor coached at all in the NHL, after only 11 games.
