I've never gotten one in my life. I live with a nurse. I've had the flu once and I think I was maybe 13. Based on this evidence I will declare that I have a superior immune system and am a modern marvel of physical science.

I got my first flu shot ever last year (I ain't no spring chicken.) and I have a weakened immune system due to a splenectomy decades ago. I've had the flu a few times in my life. No big deal, but I wouldn't want to skate in the NHL while I was recuperating.

What did you have a splenectomy for? I lacerated mine when I was 11 and bled out 40% of my blood, but they were able to save it...thank (frank)ing god.

So what you're saying is that you actually believe that Snow and the Islanders are actively and publicly defying a pretty clearly defined rule?

Has Garth Snow said anything? Capuano is the only one to say he's "sick". Define sick? I don't believe he has the flu.

I had a "mono-like virus" according to the doctors that caused my spleen to enlarge to where it was so fragile that it didn't take much for it to be lacerated. When they finally operated, they found more than a liter of blood in my abdomen.

But 40% is even more serious. How'd you lacerate yours? Playing hockey?

No, because hockey got cancelled actually

I was supposed to have a roller hockey game at the old outdoor rink in Bayport. It got rained out and by the time we got home it had stopped raining and it was gorgeous out so I went for a bike ride with my father. Hit a pot hole, went into the handlebars and flipped over. No puncture or anything, it was all internal. We thought I broken a rib. Luckily a friend and his father came driving around the corner and dropped me at home. I sat in the hospital waiting room for a few hours bleeding to death and not know it lol. I went into shock right after my cat scan, my skin was completely white and I was freezing. Another hour or so and I probably wouldn't be gracing you fine gentlemen with my presence.

Wow! That's the tricky thing about ruptured spleens. They are VERY difficult to detect. I had been hospitalized for days (much more common back in the day) under observation. They ran CAT scans that showed no ruptures. It wasn't until my blood count fell below a normal level that they realized they needed to open me up. Lucky for me they did.

I also had a bicycle riding accident similar to yours when I was 10, but it resulted in a severe concussion, no internal injuries.

I think he's saying Tavares is bad at juggling chainsaws.

I wish I could remember everything a little more clearly, but I was young.

All in all I was pretty lucky though, because (if I recall correctly) they did the CAT scan more as a precautionary thing "just in case". When the results came back they essentially said "uhhh yeah you're going to surgery right now".

It's actually kinda funny, my best friend at the time had a father who was a surgeon. So we pretty much "requested" our own surgeon lol. He's the reason why they didn't just take out my spleen. He sent a car to another hospital to get special sutures so they could save it. Jokes aside, I really do have a ridiculous immune system now. I don't ever get sick, so I'm pretty thankful they were able to keep it.

That's the way to be. I will probably go get my flu shot for the second time, because of my compromised immune system and because it's free.

The first time I got the flu was a few days after the first time (and only time) I got the flu shot. The only reason why I got it was due to the DOH in New York making it mandatory for all health care employees. It still is mandatory but I refuse to get it.

How do you know when your team is playing like shat? When the thread for your team on a hockey site is comprised of pages and pages of people debating on the effectiveness of flu shots.

Sad, but true....

Funny thing is that our special teams, both the PP and the PK, are playing great. Too bad we can't play 5 on 5...

The last few years it seems either one or the other is doing well. Never both.

The team announced he was out with an illness. So Capuano is actually not the only one to say that.
