A faster team honestly would do wonders. I don't buy the notion that these guys don't work hard. Well I suppose to a point I do but when you are constantly chasing the puck and losing races it's going to make you look bad.

Aren't going to be turning mules into mustangs.

- flyer_nutter

True. More skill and speed would certainly help. As would not taking horribly stupid penalties. Way to go MDZ, smfh.

I had hoped to see a couple of the younger guys to take that next step....it just doesn't seem to be happening at all.

My biggest thing was hoping to see Couturier, Brayden and to a lesser degree MDZ show they can fill important roles on the club going forward.

Call me insane but Brayden has the same issues as always. Great for short stretches and completely a warm body for others. Couturier is good defensively but if he doesn't grow that offensive game, well it would be a bummer.

Holes that would need to be filled. MDZ is playing too big a role, but I'm cool with him long term.

How dare you expect Hexy to bring a young player up until it is exactly 1 billion % the right time.
- opeth_pa

you misunderstand. i am suggesting that is when this team will be dangerous again. the youth will gradually make their way. it's going to take 3-4 years of developing them at the nhl level.

Do you really think NJ and Buffalo are that deep and talented? If talent is all it is, how did they manage to beat the Rangers and Hawks?

For sure, they need more talent. But they are being badly outworked, just like last night and Buffalo is also playing their 3rd game in 4 nights.

Nope, its more than just a lack of talent.

Show me a play tonight that indicates a lack of effort...
Please note im not saying that might not be a problem I am saying that a lack of talent beyond Giroux and a struggling Voracek is a bigger problem.

Basically this team has 2 legit top 6 forwards, a very good 3C shutdown center and a nice goalie tandem. You got a lot of work to do Hexy.

As for leadership. I'd agree. Over the years they have lost Smith, Briere, Timonen, Knuble, Pronger, Lappy and Laviolette. Not sure that winning attitude was ever replaced.

That's not a knock on Giroux, but he's kind of high and dry here. I don't blame him a second for some bad play. He's been a part of and expected to carry this sack of poop for how long.

Konecny, Provorov, Sanheim, Ghost and the guy they take with their top 10 pick this year, cannot get here soon enough.
- BiggE

I am praying its a top 5. And hopefully Streit/Baby Schenn/both gets them another high pick/prospect.

I want Baby Schenn to go on a tear and score 30 this year. Of course then the Flyers will over-reward him too early.

Hexy preaches patience which I am fine with but the reality is they really cant even bring up any of the kids because of the cap situation

Fair enough, and maybe its more a lack of speed and size, but Buffalo seems to be beating them to nearly every loose puck and winning most if the board battles.

The have a good fourth line.

I think Laughton, Simmonds and that fourth line along with Raffl are good pieces. Honestly the rest? Meh.

We have a lot of small guys and a few of our bigger guys don't really effectively use their size.

Yup. You can't keep letting those kind of vets go without replacing them and expect to be successful. This team badly lacks veteran leadership.

what has he done in his career that would possibly give you any hope ever that he could go on a tear and score 30. i would have no problem if he were gone after tonight. the guy brings nothing to the table.

Well to be honest outside of Gudas, Simmonds and Luke they aren't a gritty bunch. The notion that they are hard workers than can win trench battles even if they don't have skill is iffy to me.

It's just a bad mix. I am probably most dissapointed with Read. Thought he could be a guy going forward. Liked him. He's been poop for a while now.
