for the next few years watching the draft will be the most exciting part of being a Philly sports fan
- vejim

I agree. But didn't a lot of Eagles fans turn off the draft after the 2nd pick, long before the Eagles picked?

I can't stand listening to him personally. When I saw the Centre ice feed was Buffalo I cringed..
- Hextall271

I got the both feeds. I'm out of market so maybe that's why.

When I had Center Ice, I used to watch the Penguins about 60 times a year. If they played against Buffalo or Boston and we got either of those feeds, my Penguins fan wife would make me mute it.

In Laviolette's first year as the Flyers head coach, that team continued to play up and down hockey in the regular season. They had a very good playoff season obviously, even thought they came real close to being knocked out by the Bruins. In terms of taking over a team during the regular season, and turning the team around, Berube, who is a "clown" did much better than Laviolette did taking over a team.
- MJL

Listen, I wasnt a huge fan of Berube. Not that I dont like the guy.. and not that I wasnt pulling for him.. He just did a lot of thing that left me scratching my head.

Hakstol is 3 weeks into his NHL coaching career. We have had out best start to a season in a few years, and have done so with a mediocre roster. He has the guys playing (typically) hard from start to finish. We have points in 6 of 8 games against pretty stiff competition, and wins against teams that notoriously have had out number in recent years. Last night was ugly. But they didnt give up.. and hell they nearly ended up getting the W. That will happen from time to time. Hakstol wasnt happy either.

BUT, he did play Manning vs Gretzky and Lemieux

Nah, but the OT goal was a real stinker. Completely stoppable.

I personally don't ever blame a goalie for giving up a goal on a breakaway.

Yes, it was a deal (maybe not a big one). However, he did it in one game and it was his 5th game as an NHL coach. This can be corrected and hopefully will be in the future. If he persists in getting bad match-ups constantly (especially if the game is a home game, as Dallas was not).

For someone who says you can't look at one game, you seem to keep harping on this one game match-up as a reason why Hakstal is a bad coach.

- jmatchett383

He kept it up after 2 goals on the same pair, neither known to shut down top lines. Ignorance is bliss I guess. I've made other points but you are only harping on one.

It is amazing to me how fans can pick and choose what's a big deal and what isn't, based on the excuse that the Coach's new. I don't care if your new or a ten year coach with 5 rings. Know the capability of your personnel.

Maybe he was testing the capability of his personnel?

lets play a game here. If you were coach for that game, who would you have had in against them?

In fairness, the game was on the road, where the home coach has last change. During road games, you're not going to get all the favorable matchups you want. Most coaches have a top defense pairing to rely on, and then some even have a second pair that is better than any of the Flyers defense pairs are. it is not a good matchup, but it is going to happen at times.

For me it depends on the shot. In the shootout against the Rangers Philly's first two shooters scored world-class goals on Lundqvist. The OT goal wasn't even close to that caliber. It was a straight break away, 5-hole shot. That 5-hole was huge, too.

It happens. I'm not down on Mason at all. I just think it was a weak goal.

Did they win those Cups after coaching 8 games in their NHL coaching career?
- MJL

Well thwt certainly won't make the playoffs in 8 games in late October. You're right though, we're in a playoff position.

I just figured I'd be clear so we don't end up with a 15-page discussion on what makes a "500 team."

Schultz and Streit. Not ideal but both are vets. Manning is a rookie who took along time to work his way to the NHL and Del Zotto is more of an offensive defenseman who is prone to mistakes in his own end.

Sure, it was a fine shot. Mason gave him the Grand Canyon to shoot at.
